lesson learned today

Recommended Posts

before you all start, i know its mainly my fault and i am beat up about it. so please no flaming me.

For the last three weeks ive been looking after my mates dog springerXcolley a 9 month pup.

Today i was towing my bike into work to use the workshops on camp where i saw one of my lashes come loose. so ive stopped the car and jumped out the car, usualy the dog justs sits on the front seat till i let her know she can come out but toady i jumped out and she springed straight out between my legs and the door was narrow as it was on a road. When she jumped out she jumped straight into a moving car aprox 30 mph as it was a village and she has broke her leg. yes i know i should have tied her in but tbh i never have with any of my dogs.

Well i got to work asap as i am in the army and hell will break loose if i dont turn up plus i wanted to tell the owner what had happend and to get his pet insurance details. well guess what he has none. i went bloody ape shit at him saying this is going to be expensive. He has agreed to pick up the bill as it was a accident and the vet has already said it will hit 1000 pound plus.

Now i know it was my fault but my point is, get pet insurance everyone, you never know when a accident like this will happen.

ive just trippled checked my dog is insured and he is.

now i dont have pet insurance for the simple reason i have 5 dog and the amount i would need to pay a month is better put into my jar and left incase of such accidents ,yes fare enough if you only have one dog

Hope the pup is ok.

I'm sure i've read somewhere that its a legal requirement that any dog travelling in a car has to be restrained in someway, if not behind a dog guard then by way of a harness etc. I may be wrong but if it is the case then an insurance company may not pay out for such an accident. I'm sure there is someone here that can confirm for me.

wouldnt matter anyways, as i said the pup wasnt inusred. and if it was then i would not tell the vet that but just say dog hit by car etc etc.

I know i should have tied the dog in, but i didnt and have now learned my lesson from it.

so used to our dog duke big old gsd that once in boot of car cant be arsed to even think about leaving the boot that its never been a problem.

Well i can make as many excuses as i want but its done now. and got to deal with it.

Guest foxyjo.

Fraggle, I hope no one "flames" you, it was an accident, and we all have those. You can't forsee absolutely every eventuality.

And why do these things always happen when you're doing someone a favour???? :wallbash:

Hope your buddie's dog is better soon.

Insurance is a must, mine costs £6 per dog per month. Every year when it comes up for renewal i just change it to someone else offering the best deal. Insurance companies put the price up cos they think we are all lazy and cant be bothered to change it. Just remember if you do change to another company you will have a cooling off period or waiting time before you can claim, check the small print!!!
