edjay 0
Hi, i am thinking of trying trout fishing(not fly fishing)and i was wondering what baits i should use, what rod should a use and where could i go in the cambridgeshire area. thanks Greg I started with an 8ft Wychwood rod and an Okuma fixed, skirted spool reel with 8ld line on it for doing some spinning (roughly £50 all in). You can also use this to do a bit of worm trotting - a split-shot or two or a very small weight allowed to bumble along a bit with the current - or, attach a small float if you only need to cast close by. Worms of all sizes can be found under plant pots and just about anywhere you might find composted material such as ........er.........earth. You can pick up fly tackle or other stuff later: A tip about fly fishing: If you think you might like the idea, watch someone doing it first and see what you think. The great thing I found out about fly is that you can make your "bait" (flies) out of a huge range of natural materials - A relatively ancient art which goes back to around 1670ish. As for rivers in Cambridge? Take a wander and talk to people fishing ( Try to avoid lines like "av yer ad owt?" or "nythin doin?" and think twice about wearing any dayglo jackets. ) All the best Quote Link to post
