comanche 3,264
Iberian Lynx, habitats spain, numbering around 100 wild individuals, still plenty of pics of wild specimens,I mean gin-clear,blade-sharp pics of a creature thats on the WWF endangered-list............ And here is an example of the reason why there are unlikely to be many if any viable ,long term populatons of Big cats in Britain. Inbreeding. The Iberian lynx is dying out through infertility due to inbreeding ,even with a population of 100 plus the pathetic gene pool held in wildlife breeding programmes. Not saying there ar'nt or hav'nt been cats loose (plenty of reports from my area and I have reasons for believing at least some of em) but breeding populations of cats need to have access to a large gene-pool. mackem 29,522
Some trees dont bear fruit Comanche, black panthers(and the majority of sightings are of are black lab sized cats)are black because of a recessive gene,so you would need two cats with the same recessive gene to be in the same area at mating time Big cat experts also guesstimate you need 6-8 animals living in a given area to keep a species line going, though how large that "Given" area would be is species specific I just did a 5 minute search on "UK big cats" do you realise how many webistes, individuals and interested organisations are clamouring for proof positive of a UK cryptids existance?Any of you remember watching Chris Packhams "The X Creatures" back in the late 1990's?He did an episode "Big cats in a little country",disproved scientifically the existance of breeding population of large leopard sized felids in the UK,but theres always room for doubt I guess?Simo, dig out those pics
comanche 3,264
Hello Mackem. Not surprised that there 're loads of web-sites about it.Not that I've looked (Computers are as alien to me as some folk think big cats are). People in this area have kept some fairly exotic stuff (genuine wolf,a lion!) .This was fairly common knowledge , actually saw the wolf myself .God knows what was kept in secret so some scope for escapees. We had red deer in the woods after the 87 storm and I've seen boar over the last two years so no doubt stuff does "leak" out. Puma was caught ,little "big cats" have been shot, trapped ,run over etc but has anyone come across a litter of cubs?. One can actually ,with a bit of thought ,imagine that in the past there was actualy more scope for big-cat and other exotic escapes.Going back to at least Roman times there must've been a pretty thriving trade in exotica for the arena and as status symbols for aristocracy and client Kings stretching beyond the Roman empire. What've we got from European historical records ? .A few reports of "the Beast of***",The Were-Wolf of somewhere else .None of em seem to have established breed ing populations. Surely we should be seeing an upturn in the Were-wolf population ,what with the laws against human murder and the protection afforded wolves in most countries? Doubly protected but maybe it's too late and inbreeding is affecting stocks
mackem 29,522
I think before long we will be over-run with illegal immigrant cryptid species Orang Pendeks in Essex,Mongolian death-worms in Morcambe,Chupacabras in Chichester,Mananangals in Manchester Its only a matter of time, better buy up as many crucifix as possible and start re-casting There was a guy in Feltham, west London kept a pet lion

Sako.243 1
Large puma-sized cryptids living and breeding in our densly-populated isles?Snow-leopards,siberian-tigers,clouded-leopards,all living in inhospitable sparsly populated corners of the globe, but each, even snow-leopards living almost on the roof of the world have been filmed, photographed, studied closely, theres proof-positive,concrete tangible evidence of their existance, point me in the direction of one undisputable piece of UK footage?Swamp cats?Lynx? Not exactly a breeding nucleus of black-panther or puma are they? When was the last time a foxhound pack treed a large non-indiginous felide? I am open minded,I believe these cats exist, they arrive on tuesdays teleported from the planet felis to a sportsground just outside bromsgrove Yer right mate, Im like you, Unless ive seen something i would never belive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But ive no reason to lie or make a complete c**t of myself but i swear this is true, I will take this to the grave.
