new to pigeon shooting

Recommended Posts

I went out with a mate a couple of weeks ago and now I'm hooked. There seems to be loads of woodies around here.

Two questions, :-

1) Does anyone have any advice on the best place to get camo netting for a hide?

2) Any suggestions as I fancy making my own decoys as I like a bit of DIY?

Try to find a copy of "pigeon shooting" by John Grey.

It has instructions on making decoys from real pigeon carcasses which is very interesting.

Or buy a few plastic ones and adapt them for your own needs (also described in his book).

Or...cut the breast meat from any pigeons you have, freeze the body and use that.

Old books on pigeon shooting can be found in antique book shops and are fascinating.

Good luck .

Mooster.

I've scrouged a deek from a mate and willl use that as a form to make papie mache bodies with PVA glue.

Once set, I'll paint them with acrylic and then set them up on wire rods.

May turn out crap but like I said I love messing about. If the results aren't too embarrasing I'll post a few pics. If all else fails I'll buy some. You never know there might be a market for hand cratfed decoys!!
