Guest hyperion
went up the farm tonight to scare a few rats and have a chat with gareth the farmer,as we pulled into the yard i saw a couple of rats on some spilt grain in a gate way!, so i park myself up close by and wait hoping for a shot! ive been stood there a few minutes when gareth walks over and we start chatting, all of a sudden he points and says there goes one!, i never even thought about it, the air rifle goes to my shoulder, pick the rat up in the scope, swing through and pull the trigger! now this is where it gets complicated! i remember picking the rat up in the scope and pulling the trigger but thats all! i dont remember swinging through it or the sound of the pellet hitting home, and i dont remember seeing it fall but it was dead as a door nail when i walked over to it!, shot through the chest! my last memory of that rat is a freeze frame of a running rat with the cross hairs just above and behind its arse! i should point out that i dont make a habbit of shooting at moving targets with an air rifle!, but i have been known to break a few clays now and again but only when i dont think about it!, the clays i remember seeing are always the ones i miss! just wondering if any one has experienced any thing similar? cheers hyper Quote Link to post
Guest hyperion
ps i better point out the range was about six yards! maybe less! Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
Still a nice shot even at six yards as the target was moving and I know rats can shift fast too. I've fitted a green laser to my King Ratcatcher for just this sort of thing... Quote Link to post

Ron Weasley 83
About ten years ago, I had a crappy old break barrel air pistol. Where I lived at the time we had stables. The stable walls were double lined at the bottom, and single at the top- meaning that there was a bit of a ledge at about chest height all the way around. We used one of these stables as a feed room. One afternoon, i'd been doing some plinking with the air pistol, and had a look over the door of the feed shed on the off chance there might be a rat sat there for me to shoot at and miss. As I looked over, a mouse ran along the ledge on the opposite wall. Instinctively, I swung through it and fired with the pistol. And there was a dead mouse. Utterly unbelievable. Quote Link to post
