Hi Poper.

Whereabouts in Dorset are you?

It might be a good idea to join a gun club, you'll meet other like minded people and maybe pick up some days/nights out from them. If you're in West Dorset I can get you the number for a gun club over this way.

Just thought I ought to say, everyone's a bit cagey about anti's, so it's unlikely people will spring up offering you permission off here, unless you have contacts who can verify for you. That's why I suggested the gun clubs. Anyway, good luck.

It always amazes me that people come on here, make one or two posts, then ask for permission. It's not going to happen just like that. :wallbash:

Mind if i join you, old bean? :wallbash::wallbash: Lol

It is true though. Ok, easy to say i guess when i already have a couple of permissions, but I had to work for them - they didn't come to me.

Hey Poper, listen in bud. . . . .

Have a look at my signature ;);) , and you'll see the link for permission forms - take a copy, alter it to match your requirements and then print them off and keep to hand.

Next, have a look on the internet (or your local yellow pages) for farms and golf courses, horse racing courses etc, find out who the manager or head groundsperson is and approach them personally, like. Itroduce yourself to them, have a chat to get to know them, let them get to know you. If you get the timing right, then the conversation will get round to the reason you are there (what i mean is don't rush it, like ;) ) - pest control!

Now, hopefully you will have printed off an introductory letter already - give it to them and let them ask what they need or want to. If all goes to plan then (to paraphrase a friend of mine on here ;):D ) 'THWACK!!' ask if they want a form to fill in giving you written permission to shoot on their land for pests.

You don't really need them to do it there and then - let them take it with them and then hand it or send it back to you at a later date (shows them you are not trying to pressure them, you get me ;) ). Chances are that they will fill it in there and then, like. 'Good things come to he who waits', as the saying goes, or to put it another way 'Every dog has his day'.

Hope this is of help to you?

Regards and best of luck,

Grim.

Oh I agree mate, we did all have to start somewhere, but then we never had the internet , & we had to get out there in the real world & find our own permissions, (or not, depends if you were of the poaching persuasion... :whistling::laugh:) instead of expecting things to fall into our laps with the minimum of effort.

A better way of putting it might be:

I'm new to the sport, has anybody got some advice on how to go about finding some land to shoot on?

Yeah, true mate - well put. ;) Just like writing a letter, posting a thread or replying is about finding the right words.

Cheers,

Grim
