could someone please let me know what sort of lamp to buy there are so many of them on the market.

 

I would like it to be mounted on the rifle but also hand held, batterie opperated and with a red flip open filter.

the beam should go about 400m and if at all poss with a dimmer!

Lightforce 170. Lovely bit of kit. 400m beam easy, but not for actually shooting something. tbh, AFAIK you'd be pushed to get a lamp bright enough to reliably see stuff that far out. More of a case with the LIghtforce that if the background is the right colour and permits enough contrast to see your target, you could shoot that far out.

Yes, the Lightforce 170 Striker is what you're looking for As ML says, you can shoot out to 400 metres with it if the background is in your favour and you've a good scope.

cheers for the answers the only reason I was after a beem that would go about 400 m is to see the foxes and call them in,

have not tried shooting that far a fox at 250 looks a fecking long way away and i only use a .222 I have the S+B 56mm scope on it so night light is good. what do you guys think of the Tracer Max Pro from Deben??

The Lightforce will show up a fox much farther out than 400 metres then

I have a Tracer Max which I used before the Lightforce (one word of caution, I am on my second Lightforce, the other was a 140 and it's off to be fixed.). Compared with the Lightforce, it's crap. However, it does the job and is comparatively cheap.

 

But, for a centrefire, I'd much prefer the Lightforce and would pay the extra every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I'm in the same boat, just looking for a light-weight walkaround spot for rabbits with the rimmy. There is a clusion 1/2 mil cp and battery (6v - 10amp) set up for £70 on the Sportsman Gun Center site... anyone with a view on this lamp or alternative for similar money?

For lamping with the rimmy i just use a clubman's lazerlight with 12volt 7 amp batteries plenty powerful enough for shooting mate but i thought they wherwe 1,000,000 candle power ??

have the lazerlight on my 10/22 and cz .22 rim.

have a hand held strker for fox etc and a striker on the roof of discovery.

lightforce are far better but lazerlight more than enough for the rimmy.
