Constructive advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just a little advice please,

I have 2 x 11 month old Bullmastiffs who up until now have lived happily along with the lurcher, border and dobe, yesterday all hell broke loose with the end result being the dog bully putting a few holes in the dobe ! I had better explain the scenario as it stands, the bully bitch is very laid back, the bully dog is entire and obviously starting to find his feet, the dobe is neutered and very good natured, the border is bang in season and not in with them and the lurher is due in season soon and still with them. They were all lying in the garden as normal and I think the dobe had found a piece of wood and took it to his bed where the bully went to get it, the dobe had something to say and the bully let him have it with both barrels !

We didnt intend on having bully's but we hand raised 4 of them from 5 days old and could'nt place these 2 so we kept them, its a difficult mix I know but I'm no quitter. The bully is going to be neutered friday to see if this may help as I dont want to be parting them too many times in the future.

I realise people will tell me I have a bull breed what did I expect but I would like to think I could maybe stop it from becoming a regular occurrence, thanks.

Colin.

Is a Bullmastiff classed as a bull breed? :hmm: The bullmastiff was created a very long time ago by crossing the old Bulldog with the English Mastiff, but I've never heard them called a Bull breed before.

The Mastiffs will be jockeying for their position amongst the older dogs, trying to establish their rank in their pack. Neutering them may help, but they'll need keeping an eye on at all times until they have sorted out some sort of order amongst themselves.

Thanks for your reply, since having the breed to which I am new I have researched quite a lot through reading and talking to other owners and I have had mixed reports as to wether they are bull breed or not and all beit a long time ago and they are not fighting dogs they still seem to carry that intollerance with other dogs of the bulls.

I am keen to learn from knowledgeable people that is why I like this site so much.

Colin
