alimac 882
i live about 5 mile from the edge of the cairngorm national park in the highlands, its one of the last places to hold a good population of red squirels.. so you can imagine my face when a beater dropped a body in a bag , he had found it 2 mile down the road, and yes you guessed it it was a fecking grey fecker so looks as if i now may be able to join in on the squirel trapping threads, but to be honest im gutted.... was going to post in in general talk but thought id put it here instead Quote Link to post

snareman 3
Alimac. If you decide to trap the greys, use live cage traps so you can release the reds you catch. I KNOW it sounds obvious, but there are one or two who don't think it through and get some reds in there fens. I grew up in the borders, and even 20 years ago I never saw a single grey, the closest was newcastle or carlisle. The last time I saw a red it was in france earlier in the year... H there are thousands of them in the central region where i live, they have been coming around the houses where i live for the past ten years , they live in all the surrounding council woodland , you see them climbing up the walls and on the roofs at times but nobody seems to bother them. they have been around this area before i was born and that was over 60 yrs. ago. i used to shoot them with my father when i was a schoolboy. but i might give them a fright this winter with the snare poles, they have been stripping the sycamore and the willow trees, saw a fair bit of damage a couple weeks back, up in the woodland. Holdaway 2
I'll be doing the same this winter. I have a much larger pole for the snares and have some body grips in my armoury now too. I will be baiting up with maize, peanuts and hazelnuts. Quote Link to post
glamour 1
I've not seen a red squirrel in about 18 years. Quote Link to post
