sikastag_1 689
me and my mate got into a conversation last night about locator's both of us use mk 1s for ferrets i told him id seen on here people talking about these collars and i red on them a bit but does anybody know actually how far theyll go underground? what are they like for actually getting a location underground? do they bring you to an exact point when your right above the ferret? do they give you any indication of depth? (i dont think they do but may aswell ask) and the bottom line are they any good lol? i think it would be good for places with thick cover you normally wouldnt do cause end of the day you can locate your ferret for a fair distance but what if it went so far then down a hole or whatever if you cant get a depth or if it went so far and the ferret went down a hole then you loss your location? cheers in advance for any information. Yeh ,the new Star trek locators will pick up your fred up to 16feet (with a tail wind ,rider naked ,lying flat on the tank ) ,but... Being diplomatic I would say that if you have an old grey box locator that works and you know how to use it don't bother bother buying a "Mk111 Hi Viz,all-singin,take me to your leader, where the *** is my ferret?,2 foot down ,no 4ft down ...all dancin,If you have epilepsy do not look into the lights, will it still work in 25 years time like the old type?, etc "Locator .. A lot of people ,including me, are using the old type of grey box locator with the new style collar. You have a range of about 10or 11 feet with this set-up. Quote Link to post

stubby 175
as an UNDERGROUND ferret locator, Id say stick with the mk1 or mk3, but as a ABOVE GROUND location system, to be used in conjunction with a deben, then its a usefull addittion, as stated, if your ferreting in heavy ground cover, a ferret could easily slip away, using the loca8tor gives you a min 400ft search area, check out the complete write up in the top pinned section Quote Link to post
