make sure you get batteries in it, and start practising with it NOW, try finding the collars in the garden/park etc, get used to fitting the collars to your ferts, and yes, they can be done up tighter than you think,

get someone else to hide the collars, otherwise you'll cheat and walk in their direction, get used to using the squelcth dial on the back, stand still, get a reading while turning a full 360 degree's, the turn the dial so the bleeps just stop, then try stepping forward a foot or two, that way the bleeps will only be heard when your going in the right direction, each time you get closer, turn the dial to stop the bleeps, and you'll soon be finding the collar, if the dial is'nt used it can sometimes get confussing as it will bleep at different pitches none stop

You might want to change to leather collars and put a bit of tape over the speaker to quieten it mate

yer leather collors dont slip off so easily as nylon ones

dam right i had to dig my mk three out at five feet with no ferret. at least i knew it worked and it was wet and sandy where i got it. i think they are defintely worth getting as the old boxes are going to run out and not be serviceable any more sooner or later.

why go to the added expense of replacing the collars, the nylon ones are better by far, simple do them up properly, if you cant get it tight around the ferts neck, simply make another hole,

stubby , i promise you that they slip off small jills , doesnt matter how tight you go , my jil has a head like a greyhound so makes it very easy for it to slip collars

twice it come off , once 5ft down in flinty shite , changed to leather and no problem since

were always going to have those that like the nylon, and those that prefer the leather, but its when a total newbie to locators buys one, and everyone starts telling them to ditch the collars and go buy leather ones, at least let the guy make his own mind up, and try the nylon,

just out of interest, those that dont like the nylon, what hole in the collar was you using, on the ferrets that slipped them?

my 2 jills, one gets put on the first hole, the other I made a new hole (hole punch) between the 1st and 2nd hole, that leaves a hell off a lot of nylon end, sticking out, which some may feel the need to cut off, but its bloody handy for grabbing a fert by, when they just want to keep going down

thanks again stubby, yea i agree but i aint had the leather but the nylon seens to be gud my jill gets on the first hole but if you can have it a bit tighter i think i will make a other hole just to be safe. I had a go last night and i think that the mk3 is pritty good beacuse you can turn the pinpointer right down so then you dont have to listen to the sound untill you get near your collar , because i do find that if u have the pinpointer on with the sound that it can become confusing, but more practis and i will get the hang of it

thanks for the pics stubby :good:

also what is that black thing coming of your collar stubby is it a bell?
