Alot will depend on length of service, amount of people who are being made redundant etc. As i say let me know the details and i will have it checked. If you dont want to do that, Citizens Advice are pretty good at helping. Matt

sue 1
thanks for the replies ,but the more i think about it and read the paper work (which i never had any to fill in ) a trip to a solicitor might be best
mattydski 560
Sue, As a minimum, i think that if it less than 100 people that are being made redundant, he should be given 1 months consultancy period. During this period people will be selected based on selection criteria. It may even be required to have employee representatives agree the selection criteria. These selection criteria must be shown to the employee and agreed, after which they will be scored by two independent scorers and the results disscussed with the individual. Then an "at risk of redundancy letter" is normally given to the member of staff. After which they can appeal their scoring etc... It may be different if the company is facing total closure. But he can not be instantly made redundant under normal circumstances. An employment Law Solicitor would be the best thing if you have that option. If not, as offered, i can have my HR manager check it for you. We have just had to make 95 redundant, so we are pretty clued up with current legislation at present. Best of luck to him. comanche 3,295
Its rotten luck. Years ago, I remember being told two weeks before we were made redundent that despite the rumours our jobs were safe..... Still if he's been layed -off early he will have the time to check on his rights and if the Reciever is involved there is every chance of things being done by the book and being properly accountable. Probably take time though. Luck with his finding a new job
