whippets?

have various saluki cross dogs and at the moment want to inject more speed into the breeding, own couple of track greyhounds but reluctant to but them across a bitch. Thinking of using a working whippet, but never had anything to do with them. What are your thoughts on the little dogs? toughness? speed? etc and what r the best bloodlines all adverts include sooty sam (r his lines the best or just a selling point?

great little dogs heres my 3/4 saluki ghd x bwra racingwhippet ,a have you been to a non ped raceday ? nothing quicker mate if you are after more speed this is the way to go ,not all whippets are that fast

are you looking to keep the size down as well as adding speed?.

 

if your looking to inject speed and are looking at pedigree whippets you need to look for a race bred sire as working breds are slower.

Dont want the pups to be massive the bitch i have in mind is only 23" like the look of the dog posted on this topic. No not been to a race day but your advice would be to use a non pedigree racing stud. What kinda size is an average whippet dog? as for sooty sam bloodlines are these pedigree racers?

SS lines can & do race but they struggle to compeat against race bred whippets especialy at Open/Championship meetings were theres no club hcp to help as they just dont have the out and out early pace needed for racing.

also SS lines seem to be being bred bigger these day and the racing limits are 21" for dog and 20" for bitchs (pedigree racing) so a lot are unable to race due to being over sized.

hi mate ive got a little bitch of this breeding and what u might loose in speed from non racing lines u get back in the turning ability. ive bred my 3/4 grey 1/4 suluki over a mates wippet bitch. she carnt live with dogs speed but turns him in fits make real good rabbit dogs she stand 23"tts

anything laguna/nimrodel will give you speed and stamina you would be looking at 19-20 inches for a dog.

these lines will not give you the speed that race bred dogs will their are very few dogs with lagunas/nimrodels close up in their pedigrees racing these days at the top level.

 

 

if your looking for speed from pedigree lines you need to be looking at lines such as Goodad, Mcarthur, Fairmist, there are many many race bred dogs available at stud that are proven.

.....how can you say the non ped whippets are faster ? .......ive had both ped and non ped also work along side both . you get good ones from both and bad ones from both but non ped usually have grey in them a few generations back to keep the size up . ive had a 17 inch bitch that was fast as feck and takle anything full ped and faster than a lot of NON PED ones ive seen so i think its a hit or a miss but i like the make up of some of the non ped ones being that bit heavier built ... my lurcher pups sire is a non ped whippet called bigland boy now thats a fecking fast whippet lol.... put bigland boy in google and read

errrrrr because they are. FACT i am not saying a non ped will work better than a ped ,they proberly have less stamina too but over 150 yrds nothing can touch them,thats why i used a non ped over my saluki/ghd and yep she s fast ,was nt photofinish ( ped) a fast dog? how did he do against the non peds? yes i have heard of bigland boy off now for a read all the best BB
