Fidgety 8
20 acres is not big, and given that cost is a consideration, .22 rimfire is the best value all round. I have 50 acres, and wouldnt want anything else. Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
I will apply for both 17HMR and 22LR.After doing a bit of research I think I would opt of the 22LR. Have I got much chance in getting an FAC with just 20 acres? Thanks, Rizzini Quote Link to post

Have I got much chance in getting an FAC with just 20 acres? 20 acres isn't a big piece of land to get a certificate granted on.It would depend on how close this land was to roads, footpaths, houses ,buildings e.t.c. Also think you would struggle to get 2 rifles approved for 20 acres .But good look on your approval. Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
There is a small road and a motarway nearby. There are a few houses dotted around aswell. Shall I put down both 22LR and 17HMR, or just 22LR. The FO will be able to tell me at interview what he thinks. Quote Link to post

rizzini 1
Do I have to put mods down on the FAC application? When he asks what do you want it for, do I just say for shooting rabbits and other small vermin. Do I have to go into detail about why I need to shoot them and prove they are doing damge. rizzini 1
Do I actually need a letter from the lad owner or does the FO just need to speak to him? Also can the land owner acta as one of my referees. Thanks, Rizzini Quote Link to post

Thanks, Rizzini no mate its best to include a letter of permission with your fac from the farmer. i got mine to write one out saying i ........ giver permission to jamie... to do vermin control on my land with rimfire, centrefire, shotguns, air rifle. any rifle acording to his ticket which he has been granted for. i cant see why you cant use the farmer as your refrence ? but i wouldnt because to me it looks like he is doing it for you as you want to shoot on his land so mite be better if you get someone who is from a differnt walk of life who no's you. dusty 0
I think i will just go for 22lr and 17HMR and then see what happens. I like the look of the sako quad as you can change the caliber by just changing the barrel. Thats if I get more than one caliber. i did ask this question on r7oc which i am a member of & sam of cs firearms in manchester replied with this & i think this is good advice from a good gunsmith. dusty. Not impressed tbh mate. Sako do make a quality rifle, the old 75's are superb, they recently replaced them with the 85 model which, although nice, ain't in the same league for my liking, neither is the quad. I'm going to sound like an old fart now but "they don't make them like they used to". I think the quad is a bit gimmicky with the interchangable barrel, hence the appeal. You can spend big money on a Sako or Anschutz, and they won't shoot any better than the humble CZ452. The CZ's do benefit from a trigger job (neither costly or time consuming), and that aside, they are a superb little tool. I have a 452 Varmint 16" screwcut, my shoting partner has the same in 20", they are around the £280 - £300 mark depends where you buy from, which imho leaves more money left over for quality glass. I can't speak for the Sako, but 2 collegues of mine have Anschutz HMR's, both of which foul up and loose accuracy after 15 - 20 rounds, which on a big bunny bash is a big disadvantage. My CZ will just keep on shooting and shooting and shooting, so do all the others i've encountered. Granted, mine needs 4 or 5 fouling shots to get back on song after a boresnaking once in every blue moon, but i'd rather that than have to clean it after every 15 rounds up the pipe. Food for thought? Quote Link to post

Food for thought? i have a annie mate and ive never had to clean it after 15 to 20 shots because the accuracy go's off ? your right the cz and the annie will shoot about the same group wish but the build, trigger, and bolt on the annie compared to the cz are leagues apart. weather its worth the exta money then i dont no ? it depends what you like i guess. as for the sako its a good idea the barrels change a someone could have 4 differnt guns but with only one rifle ! so it takes up less room in the cabinet.
