splinter 9
Hi folks, what age should you start working kits? Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I got my jill as a kit this time last year. I started her at the start of last season, she killed on her first outing. I suppose it all depends on the ferret, my mate got his hob from the same litter, he only started getting the idea towards the end of the season. I'm not sure if jills are faster learners, mind as it was my first season. We're expecting even better this coming season, with them having that first season under their belts. Quote Link to post
The one 8,593
If you get a nice early kitt there no reason why it cant be mature and a good sized to start ferreting come september but if you got a small or later kitt a good kick from a rabbit might put it off ferreting for good Quote Link to post

A wee bit soon in my opinion mate,as one says a good kick to a young fert from a rabbit might put them back a bit.Wait till back end of november and find a small burrow to let them find their feet. even better if the burrow has no one at home. Guest ferret
Hi folks, what age should you start working kits? a large buck rabbit can give off a very powerful back kick,it will almost certainly break the neck of a young ferret,so when do you use the young kit,my kitts of this year will be given a run out in january of next year, they will see plenty of dead rabbits throughout the year but not live ones, they will be fed whole carcusses of squirels and vermin of various type.some boys will use young ferrets at six months old only once has a rabbit got to kick back and if its not fatal might well put the young ferret off...dont rush your ferret and never force it to ground if it refuses at one entrance hole try another eventually it will hunt for you....
