HEAD SIZE

HI, I'VE JUST READ A BOOK ON JACK RUSSELLS BY KENNETH JAMES (WORKING JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS IN NORTH AMERICA). HE SAID THAT HIS DOGS WORKED TO FOX BUT SOME OF THEM WERE ONLY 8 LBS IN WEIGHT. MY JACK RUSSELL IS 11 INCHES AND 11 LBS BUT HER HEADS REALLY SMALL AND I DON'T THINK SHE COULD EVER TACKLE A FOX. DOES A FOXING TERRIER REALLY HAVE TO HAVE A MASSIVE HEAD OR CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH JUST BAYING ?. WHAT HAPPENS IF A SMALL HEADED BAYING DOG GETS GRABBED BY THE FOX, DOES IT GET BULLIED?. DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS READ THIS BOOK BUT HIS JACK RUSSELLS LOOK REALLY SMALL. MAYBE ITS A DIFFERENT SIZE FOX IN AMERICA. I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY SEEN A FOX IN THE FLESH YET BUT I'VE GOT A FOX MASK AND IT LOOKS TWICE THE SIZE OF MY DOGS HEAD. DO FOXES HAVE A POWERFUL BITE?. THIS IS PROBABLY A STUPID POST TO SOME PEOPLE BUT I'VE GOT A FEW BOOKS AND THEY DON'T REALLY SEEM TO COVER THIS PART OF FOXING.

The head size shouldnt be a problem IMO but I`m sure theres a few on here who will fully explain it to you

And do you think she will go to ground on a fox mate?? I think if she dose she should be okay you can only try,...So as soon as the season starts get her out there n try her and let us know how you get on

I THINK SHE WOULD GO TO GROUND BUT I JUST DON'T THINK SHE WOULD HAVE THE TOOLS, BUT YA DON'T DO TILL YA TRY. SHE SEEMS GAME AND SHE'S TOTALLY STEADY WITH OTHER DOGS BUT SHE JUST DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANY OF THE BEASTS I SEE. SHE'S FROM WORKERS ASWELL.

does your bitch go to ground have you tryed her at 3 shes more then ready personally i like a terrier with a strong head can take the bad bite of the fox but thats me others like small type terriers it all depends on what way your dog works if she sounds then she will be fine.most russels are sounders anyway.theres only one way to find out thats to try her out next season.i know its nice to read books on working terriers but dont belive everything you read in them .american earths are differnt sizes to the ones youl be working with your bitch.best of luck with her anyway mate

I'VE ONLY TOOK HER WHERE THERES RABBITS. SHE'S BEEN TO GROUND BUT ONLY TO RABBITS AND I'VE ALWAYS MANAGED TO GRAB HER OUT. SHE'S PROBABLY SMALL ENOUGH TO GET ANYWHERE BUT THATS THE THING BECAUSE SHE'S SMALL ENOUGH TO GET TO THE FOX BUT NOT BIG ENOUGH TO BATTLE IT. ARE THERE OUT AND OUT BAYERS THAT NEVER MIX IT AND GET AWAY WITHOUT GETTING CHOMPED BY THE FOX?.

I wouldn't worry about it so much. Get her on game bro. I have a small headed bitch that works coon all the time. Not much of a hard dog, but if you wanted that, I suppose you wouldn't have gone with a russell in the first place, at least for the most part. Yeah, I know, some are hard, but not real common....

ya iv seen one of my mates small dog russel just bay till dug to used to get f**k all marks on him.did you ever hear the saying its not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog.she learn how to work foxs right after a few digs

TO BE HONEST ME DAD GOT ME HER WHEN I WAS 12 TO CATCH A FEW RATS BUT YOU SEE A LOT OF POSTS ON FOXING DOGS AND YOU WONDER WHETHER YOUR DOGS COULD HACK IT. if she didnt make it what harm belive me iv had more bad ones then good ones but they dont last to long.youl only own a few terriers in your life that will stand out iv only owned one that stands out from the reast so far.if your going to be scared to put her to ground then dont you have to understand if your going to use a terrier for ground work things do happen dogs get marked up and dogs get lost after all they are hunting dogs.by the sounds of it mate shes more your pet then earth dog not saying she wouldnt work.

I've heard of dogs that size doing the biz, If you get the oppurtnity - try her, I know id only regret it if i had the chance and didnt

Im desperate to see what my bitch would make of a few foxes, i've been asking around a few local guys with no luck as of yet... unless anyone on here fancy a shovel carrier for a season...? LOL
