Washed up on beach!!

Recommended Posts

Just had the dogs down the beach when bruce would'nt come back when being called and was paying particular attention to something, which i thought was a big rock.....until he started rolling on it!!!!

So i start to walk over to investigate what it could be and then start to see its some kind of carcuss......at this point i'm hoping for the remains of a human body washed up but when i got there it looks to be some kind of seal..... someone on here might be able to say what type it is.......

I too wondered about the wish to discover human remains. Strange though, but I guess most of us feel we'd quite fancy the idea. Must be some macabre throw back in us.

Though, in actual fact, I knew of a guy who Did once happen upon a corpse. He dutifully called the Police and ..... well, suffice to say, after all the waiting around, questioning, form filling and general taking up of his entire day; His verdict was that, should he ever find another one? It could f*cking well lay there and rot to hell!

Anyway, without knowing where ye found it ~ lovely thing that it is ~ but going on size and what we can make out of the muzzle shape there? Tough but, I'd possibly err more towards a Gray than a Common. It does seem to have once had quite a snout on it.

You in the north? I believe Grays are found more at the northern end of the island. Though, of course, tides could have brought that thing up miles from where ever.

Nice.

Oh; Edited to say; The skull would probably sell on the Bay ..... :whistling:

 Whatever it is, I wouldn't want to be within 100 miles of Bruce at the moment. Who gets the dubious job of bathing him?

Why would someone pay for a seal skull

He's a dirty little twat!!!!! He found a dead fox last summer, all slimey and grey, bloated and stinking and he rolled in that for about 2 mins till i got there, it was caked in his ear his collar....f*****g foul!!!!!

Oh, I see! So I was peering at the wrong end? FFS  Anyway, Northumberland? could be Gray. Hardly really matters now. It's dead and it's skull'n on the Bay already. F*ck.

Lurkergirl; Skull Collecting is - and always has been - quite a hobby with some Naturalists. Only these days, with the internet and the Bay shrinking the world, those Collectors are exposed to ever more exotic types and so are used to paying more and more for the next one. Gray seal, especially, would have been popular. Shame someone got there first.

the white bits on the middle pic were bone, but didnt look to be big enough for a skull, i might be wrong never seen one close up alive let alone rotting and to be honest, i was trying not to inhale too much......

:icon_eek:

:whistling::whistling::whistling: .....might have been washed up with some kind of merchandise attached to it!!!!!! ;)

everyone has their own way of making a living lol

yuck..

i cant say i would relish the thought of finding a bloated human body on the beach... especially if my dog was rolling in it.

but i like my dad's logic on the matter.

a few years ago he was out in his hunting camp with a friend and his son. the boy and his dad traipsing through the woods found a human skeleton and freaked out, radioed my dad to come quick - he had the cell phone anyway - he got there and found them whiter than sheets, and shaking.... "WTH is the matter with you two?? its dead! it cant hurt you, ya couple of pusses..."

turned out to be a missing woman in the area - part of a spousal abuse case that was long forgotten.

God only knows how many bodies are hiding in the woods and swamps from such cases. i forgot the percentage # but the majority of people actually found that are reported missing is quite low.

anyway as for who'd buy the skull lol i would!

i collect skulls and i would absolutely love to have a seal!

and yeah my husband says i'm sick because of my collection... :icon_redface: we were visiting a farm that had a large sheep with an impressive set of horns on his head... he was a friendly sheep so i was petting him. my husband leans over and says to it "You better run, she only wants your skull!"

...well yeah... :tongue2: but i'm nice enough to wait until something is dead before i try taking its head!
