lgray88 4
Had this post on the reloading and scopes section but had no replies so i thout id see if someone can help me on this section. Can anyone suggest a good starting point on cartridge reloading as i am going to be goin for a centrefire rifle in the very near future. What books or online material can you suggest on reloading? What about the equipment needed? What would i be looking at money wise for the relading equipment? Is a certain machine bought for a certain caliber or is it universal to take all types of cartridges? Depending on how good you are at the reloading process what sort of pace can you set say for each hour of reloading? Many Thanks liam Quote Link to post
landrover 6
the lee aniversery kit is a good place to start ,cheap, every thing you need to get started except the dies, just order them when you know what you want ie .223,.243 etc, some people will say get better gear but why until you know weather your going to stick to it, lee gear does the job ,if you can afford it get extra presses at about £22 each saves setting your dies up evey time Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
are there any websites selling everything i need as ebay doesnt have much at the moment unless i get it from the states , isnt one press enough ? you have your hand primer machine , and just a pourer for the powder to go in to the case , and then the press to put the bullet into the case what else is there to do , mind im new to this ive not even seen it done before liam Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
well here we go you need scales weather they be digital or manual, primer pocket cleaner, vernier callipers to measure over cartridge length etc. a case tumbler to clean your fired cases. A neck sizing die, full length sizing die, and a bullet seating die, hand primer, deburring tool for the case necks, corn curnels for your tumbler, powder trickler, reloading data, from good sources like the lee modern reloading, or the hornady handbook of cartridge reloading, or the complete reloading manual for youe selected calibre, bullet puller if you find you make alot of mistakes, good cases likw winchester, lapua. remington, primers, and bullet heads, and some PATIENCE to as it's a slow process till you gain the knowledge you need. so not alot really, oh and a chronograph if you want to do the job properly. so again not alot really oh forgot to add the press......silly me Quote Link to post

lgray88 4
ah yes this is were i bought my new rifle from . seems like a good enough place , what set up do you suggest a single press of the turret type save buying more presses yes? liam Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
you only need one press so, unlees you go for a good turret press stay away from them and go with a single stage press, and put the money into a good set of dies like redding or the likes, lee dies will do if your straped for cash till you find your feet. lgray88 4
are all dies compatabile to all presses , so i would be better off using mulitple presses as i dont want to swap dies all the time , or is it more sence to go through all my cases with the first die than change dies and go through the next step on so on? liam Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
one press, most accept the 7/8 x 14 thread on the die but some presses have a 11/4 x 12 thread nearly all are 7/8 so nothing to worry about. use the dies to do all your brass say neck size and decap the primer, do all the cases at one sitting, then change to the bullet seating die and seat all the bullets, job done. lgray88 4
how many times can you reload the same case of is it advised not to do it anymore than once Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
I'm not being funny here mate but i think you should get yourself a good book and read it. something like the ABC's of reloading is good. Brass can be reloaded many times, And there are lots of factors which lead to the brass being of no use, look for signs of case damage such as loose primer pockets, split necks etc give your brass a good check over for any signs that lead you to think that it may have to be discarded.
