stubby 175
reading that lot, made me realise how good my dentist is, Ive missed god knows how many appointments, yet has never moaned at me, I got my sons and my dad onto his "books" as he dont charge the earth for work he does, and when either myself or my sons go to see him, and need a perscription, he writes them out in my dads name, because he's over 65 and dont have to pay charges
SEAN3513 7
If this had happened to an imigrant, they would not be struck off the NHS list. Well, I'm an IMMIGRANT ffs Didn't give me any special treatment. You've got the wrong idea there. It's not the immigrants problems, it's the government who sets the policies. Getting rather tired of the immigrant comments. hi lurchergrrl, dont think that your the kind of immigrant that is in question!!! i understand how you feel...........but please dont be offended!!! all the best sean

brookie 1,193
if it didnt merit a response why did you reply the health service and the dentistry service is on its knees because its overloaded with foreigners if your so concerned about them then go back with em and take brown and his cronies back with you and when you get to where ever your going to sink the boat so theres no return maybe if one of us need a dentist or a hospital appointment we wont have to wait around an eternity to get one then

Hunting Dachshund 0
Being an immigrant or not is absolutely irrelevant. NHS does not pay off dentists well and it often does not cover the entire overhead (rent/mortgage of office, assistent's salaries, etc.). This coming from a dentist who has worked with a national health service system, albeit not in the UK. The NHS on the other hand is strict about the 6-month recall system. Overdue appointments may not be paid. The overhead of a dental office continues, even at missed appointments and even when procedures do not get paid by the NHS. It is friggin' annoying if people do not cancel appointments at least 24 hours prior!! And it seems more common with NHS patients to no-show. So I am sorry, but without the dentist's records, I do not believe that it is truly this person's first missed appointment.

Guest SJM
I have Resistive Trypanophobia so its pointless for me to register with a dental practise as I cant go near them unless I am in complete and utter agony and as a last resort. Ive been 3 times in my life, each time to have an extraction after months of agony when I cant take it any longer. What I do is I go into a dental practise and tell them that I need urgent treatment and I tell them I am prepared to pay whatever it takes and am not leaving til they see me. Some will knock you back, but if your patter and pleading is good enough you will usually pull it off. The last time I got my tooth pulled within 20 minutes, the woman behind the desk offered to do it for £20 and I thought well I am not going to get a better offer than that I know thats probably not very helpful to you but its what I do and its worked for me so far

Scallywag 78
Immigration certainly isn't the issue here. We live in an area where there are virtually no immigrant families at all - unless you count Southerners. HuntingD, if you read the original post you'll see that I said it was the second missed appointment - the last one being over two years ago. I appreciate missed appointments are a problem but we're talking about a CHILD here, who is now effectively deprived of free dental treatment. His mother has a lot to deal with and with the best will in the world things go astray. But even if she was a total piss taker, I don't believe dentists should be able to exclude CHILDREN in this way - personally I think it's outrageous.

All kids should have access to dental care. The policy of two missed appointments has no flexibility for extenuating circumstances. I've seen some children here with unbelievable teeth

Hunting Dachshund 0
HuntingD, if you read the original post you'll see that I said it was the second missed appointment - the last one being over two years ago. I appreciate missed appointments are a problem but we're talking about a CHILD here, who is now effectively deprived of free dental treatment. His mother has a lot to deal with and with the best will in the world things go astray. But even if she was a total piss taker, I don't believe dentists should be able to exclude CHILDREN in this way - personally I think it's outrageous. I am not defending the dentist, who could well be a jerk, but I'd like to also explain the other side of the coin having been there myself. Although the NHS provides free dental services (to some extent), there are many drawbacks. One of them is that the 6 month recalls are quite strict in order to maintain in the system. From both sides: dentist as well as patient. Still accepting patients who are overdue of the 6 months or do not show up at the recalls, may mean that any treatment rendered has to come out of the dentist's own pocket. Unfortunately children are dependent on their parents/guardians, also to be in the NHS. If the adults do not comply to the system, it will affect the children. So in my opinion, it's the parent's responsibility for a child to remain in the NHS and not the dentist's. My advice to the mother is to contact the local NHS office. They are the ones who could make a decision regarding remaining with the dentist. Edited June 6, 2008 by Hunting Dachshund
