an old gamekeeper once taught me to rub some alcohol on it.....leave it a minute or two gently twist and pull.........and it should come off................then disinfectant to stop infection.

i've been told just rubbing it vigorously will cause it to release and pull out.... but have also heard contradictory advice saying being rough with a tick will cause it to regurgitate blood back into the blood stream which could cause infection.

what i do is get tweezers and have someone hold the dog (if i'm lucky to find someone that brave) and just pull it out that way. the disinfect the bite. ticks are a problem where i live. forget lymes disease.... getting bitten by a tick in my woods gives you a 50/50 chance of becoming temporarily paralyzed if you dont remove it ASAP. thats happened to a couple of dogs.. twice to one in particular. once the tick was pulled the dog was up and about again.

Use a remover, things like alcohol, etc will cause it to regurgitate as BC says. Make sure the head is completely removed too.
