Stuff buying lamb breasts i get that many for free (2 or3 sack fulls) most of them go to feed the local fox population. I also feed lamb and beast heart venison trimmings and chicken wings it costs me about £3 a week to feed 5 dogs but i have fed as many as 11 for just a few pounds extra.

Hi Ditch,

I am in a similar position, your not the only one struggling, to get by. Just the same as you, feeding the dogs is the priority.

I get a beef heart for 2 euro every week, and a beef liver for free. The dogs also get some whole chicken at a reduced price from the local shop.

Also tinned oily fish and fresh vegatables, mostly green beans, brussells, garden peas and carrots, and sometimes cabbage. The price comes out to around 5 euros a dog every week. Not too bad  Also they are in better condition than the 'dirt' complete dog food most dog owners feed.

Just imagine, most dry food contains 4 % real meat! Mine must get about 50% pure raw fresh flesh.

By the way I mince up the veg because they sometimes wont each or digest the veg properly. Mind you, they do like frozen green beans, they will crunch them up

I pay 3 euro, for a huge lamb breast and get out of date frozen chickens, from a chicken factory, at 10 huge chikens, for 5 euro, i get 20 euro worths.

Personally, i dont mind feeding complete food, as long as its a good brand. They get chicken, rabbit, venison, lamb breasts, butchers scraps, ect twice a week and Gain greyhound food other days.

Works for me.

:D I took a cracking shot of le Ding tucking into his, Mike. He looks alright on it too ;) Sadly, I caught too much identifiable background and haven't got any cropping software loaded just now. Never mind, ye've made the point admirably.

great cheers ditch, what meat is that exactly?shall i feed one of those along with my other feed every day

Lurcher1; What a man chooses to feed his Dogs is down to him. I'm not here to tell anyone how They should be feeding. I'm just pointing out what I've found to be simply the best I've found over an entire long life time of feeding Dogs. And, during that life time, I've got it horribly wrong too and my Dogs have paid.

So, to sum it all up one last time: I do not read about " BARF ". BARF has become a fashion statement. It's gone from feeding much as I do to how many exotic fruits and vegetables one can mince and mix in, with a f*cking olive on top. Coming up with new 'recipes' is almost a competative sport for some people today.

I Just Feed Fresh Raw Flesh and Bones. 90% simply BREAST OF LAMB. Maybe 5% NECK OF LAMB, depending on wether Hugh or his wife serves me. Maybe 5% ORGAN MEAT, as and when I may be offered some or even think to ask for a cows heart, cows tounge or lambs hearts or what ever, for a change and with a nod towards " Natural Feeding ".

My Dogs also, (incidentally) get a slice of carrot every other night, as I prepare my own currys. One also gets any brown rice left over from my daily curry too. But that's just to clean my bowl.

I've been down the steamed, pureed, raw, what ever vegetables root long since. Now we live in the country they just eat what they want from the banks. Be it a nibble of cow shit or a peck of vegetation.

If ye personally consider my advice worth listening to and acting on? Fine. My advice is chuck what ever ye have in that sack into the dustbin. Never again feed ye Dog shit like that. I don't care what anyone says about any brand from anywhere. That's up to them. I will NEVER feed my Dogs Anything out of a greaseproof sack.

If I had Your Dog in my care? I'd probably feed it a few fingers width off a rib cage like I showed ye a chunk of above. Maybe once a week or two I'd let it have half a lambs heart too, or the equivellent in tounge, liver, what ever. But the heart would be an after thought and not a strict rule.

Now I honestly reckon I've said about as much as I can about how I feed my own Dogs. I'd like to quit this discussion now and leave it to others to talk amongst themselves. I'd only be reitterating what I've already said - at some length.

i get pet mince from my local butcher for the ferrets, but am planning to introduce it into my pups diet, its full of meat obviouslyand all the old crap like arteries, tendons, grissle and fat going to slowly mix it with his regular grub .as for the heart did anyone see the wolfman on tv a bloke living with a pack of wolves and he was the alfa male but to do so he had to take the main organs from the road kill and outher stuff he fed them and eat himself to remain top dog.so surely in the wild one animal would regularly have a feast of heart and liver with no ill effects.

Blokes been evicted ,neighbours complained about the howling, and the pissing up there car was the last straw.
