Mars 42
Chooseing a stud dog is all about what You are looking for, but how do you choose, ?? Do you choose only the dog that you have personly seen working Do you take someones word that their dog is the worker your looking for, or does`nt it matter either way. Quote Link to post

Everyone is going to say they choose proven worker but if that was true there wouldn't be so much shit around. I lad round mines got a big bull x dog pup(sad to see a potentially good dog go to waste) , never done anything in its life, and his bull x bitch (small and racy) never seen anything but rabbits (shit on them too) because he thinks they will make a good looking/size dog. I guaranty he will say they are workers, bull x doing rabbit? Thats not work, but hey if he says there workers then there works. Quote Link to post

Thats why i added the option Proven worker, or said to be a worker, I know everyone has their own definition of a "worker" but for this poll proven worker is proven to YOUR own standards. I wasn't getting at that i meant, everyone is going to click the option that they only use proven workers but i bet there are a few who click that and have used pet blood/show dog in there breeding really. A lot of front, lies and deception in this dogging game, ive learnt that in a very short time too Quote Link to post
roadrunner 0
if i was gonna breed any working dog i would opt for the proven working or very well known working blood lines it would be worth the extra money id pay in the long run because i think it would give the pups a bit more of a chance of making a half decent lurchers or terriers for good working homes ... whin 463
mate being seroius ive had lurchers for years if they cant catch roe hares rabbs the odd fox all winter year in year out i wouldnt even contemplate breeding them and thats my collie type as for the saluks i ask them to kill hares roe rabbs and if they want chew a fox ,but thats not why i run my saluk crosses , thye must catch whats on offer were ever i take them or do there best ie lose it in cover a hole a real tight wood , ive talked to a few people of these internets and about recently and what ive done for years to get god working dogs is getting rarer now and there a real lot of crap breeding out there with show goers and in general , ive sold dogs gave them away which didnt do what was asked but everybodys standard is diffrent Quote Link to post
ianm 2,594
I have voted proven worker, however in my opinion you have missed the most crucial element out of the poll. When i breed a litter it is for my own use only so i want to give any pups i breed every chance possible and that to me means taking my bitch to a proven PRODUCER of good stock. How many times have we seen excellent working dogs produce mediocre or sub standard progeny. If i am producing a litter every 4 or 5 years i want to use the best producing stud dog available not "Bill down the roads dog" who is a good worker but never sired a pup. Quote Link to post
cocker 2,655
i have a good bull greyhound dog which i would use for stud, (proper type) and it would be my absolute pleasure to show any potential breeder who wanted to use him, how he works, but that is only half of the deal, because you would have to show me that your bitch can do exactly the same and possibly more and i have very high expectations, its not just about the stud dog its about the bitch aswell, not only that i would only do it if i wanted a pup out of the mating for myself, obviously judging the abilities of anothers dog cannot be done overnight, so this would be a long way round of doing thing,s but in my opinion it gives you a good chance of breeding something worthwhile. anyone can big a dog up to some young lad, or anyone can big a dog up on the internet, its a different matter at 02.00am in the morning in january when you have someone with you who knows what this game is all about, Quote Link to post
