Anybody else ever used one.I once made one out of a 6foot length of 15mm copper pipe polished on the inside of the barrel, the dart was made from a thin piece of hardwood about 9inches long and the flight was cotton wool bound to the dart about 1inch from the end, arrow head was made from a piece of welding rod about 10mm long flattened and shaped with a barb, which i case hardened. Shocked myself with the power of it and the accuracy, used it with great effect on feral pigeons in a derelict barn. Since been told you need a firearms ctf to posses one. :gunsmilie:

few years back, when me and the missus, and another 10 bikers went over to france for a 10 day tour, the "biker friendly" farm we were staying at, let us change out of our leathers, then informed us we were have a BBQ with games laid on (can buy anything in france)

we were shown the games, that consisted of crossbows and blow pipes, :clapper:

we brought back one of the crossbows, seems customs never check bikers :whistling:

Yes I used to be quite into them.

They are very powerful and accurate in the right hands  The only thing they dont have going for them is that a good one needs to be about 6ft long, hardly discrete.

I made mine from 6ft of alu piping, arrows made from 4mm dowel, with a slot sawn into the end with a piece of snapped Stanley knife blade for a broad head.

At the other end is a piece of paper made into a small cone shape then covered in glue to make it hard. Before attacting it to the arrows you should push it into the pipe and draw round the paper where you cannot push it into the pipe anymore. Then cut round where you marked and you have a air tight end for the arrow.

They really are extreamly powerful and could kill rabbits, phesants, pigeons etc with fecking ease.

Like i said main problem is tehy are so big and the arrows are easily lost and hard to make.

Edit... there is a good website on the net somewhere on how to make them in more detail, shouldnt be hard to find.

Interesting thread, when I was on the island of Borneo we experienced a fair amount of their use from the Iban tribesman, lovely people and deadly on monkeys with the blowpipe, the blowpipe is a part of their national symbol, like Australia has the boomerang. They were about 6 ft in length and made from bamboo and from memory the darts were made from bamboo slithers. The Iban tribesmen were, traditionally headhunters and are awesome bushmen, they used the blowpipe to great effect.

By the way, monkey is quiet nice.
