Purse nets..

Recommended Posts

Hello all at the minute im using CRAP shop bought nets for ferreting as i have up to january been going out with my mate who had the equipment. so i just used my ferrets in combination with his nets. So in Febuary i bought 10 nets out of a sport and tackle shop and went out near the end of march to try them out. These nets are really light and Sh1t!!!!!! and i mean the knots at the top where they join the ring broke within about 5 mins and the rings came off. i went to the tackle shop and got my money back.

So at the minute im looking to buy Quality nets from other ferreters , ive had a look on ebay but i cant trust the pictures and il probably just be sent crap nets out again.

so if you have any quality nets lying about il be happy to buy them from you.

which type of purse nets would be "best" ie hemp, nylon, spun nylon. Any body tell me the pros and cons of each type of netting.

Thanks in advance :)

Danny

Hi Danny, PM me your address and I will send you 20 nylon nets for free. They have no pegs on mind but Im sure you could make some. I have no idea what they are like as I bought them to use them at the start of last season and ended up getting some hemp ones instead. Its Hemp all the way for me mind I must say  They have their disadvantages ie they have to be dried out after every use or they will rot but IMO they are simply the best. I make my own now after watching rabbiteers vid on this section! jules.

Hi Danny...I agree with Jules on this one...hemp is definitely the best but they take some looking after otherwise they quickly detiorate....so I use spun nylon...which looks very similar to hemp but is rot proof..and therefore cam be put away even when wet and forgotten until the next time..

The basic nylon ones stick to everything and tangle with everything..twigs bracken etc and they take some untangling..hemp and spun nylon do not suffer as much in this regard..

all the best mate

whats the difference between 6z and 10 z is it the size of the mesh?

4 6 10 the higher the number the heavier the nylon is ! the ones in the shop would probably been 4z but useless with the nets crimped onto the ring better kniting the straight onto the ring try to make your own much more pleasure

4 6 10z are the breaking strain of the net ie 4z =40lb breaking strain so 10z is a 100lb breaking strain

imo go for the 10z nets since i got mine ill never use 4 or 6z unless i run our of 10zx nets

make your own out of spun nylon or braided nylon what i use for munting my gill nets well better and it doesnt rot and doesnt need to be dried , hemp nets are fine and in the days when that was all you could get well they done the job but some of the soft nylon you get now is much better and will last a long time there a place calles d stuart nets they will sell it to you if you ring them and get some one to make them for you or learn you have al summer
