sea fishing trip

Recommended Posts

hello folks

I'm off camping on friday for a few days(back on the monday) to a small island off the west coast of scotland so i looked out my sea fishing box to find that all my rigs and spinners are rusted beyond repair

now i usually use feather and halki riggs and have had some good results with big pollak and makeral, i normally fish fresh water and am no expert when it comes to the sea, my mate however has fished this mark a few times and recons we'll see double figure pollack and all the members of the cod family will be present... cant wait :clapper:

my question is what would the experts recomend i use as i'll have to buy a load of new kit any way so lets have yer tips ??

:victory:

Rick, its a wee bit early in the year for hokkais and feathers. There would be no Mackeral about and spinning for pollack is better later in the year when the water is warmer.Whereabouts exactly are you going,as you may be able to dig ragworm or lugworm nearby.Clappy doo's and mussels are a good substitute for crab as well and can be very productive at this time of year.If you have no "bottom tackle" i'd try a sliding float rig baited with mussel, rag or clappy doo,it would almost certainly get you some wrasse and maybe even a pollack.HTH'S,Bill

leaving tommorow morn, my mate has alot more experiance than me in this field and he says that the feathers and hokies will work, i trust this mans judgment

he's never let me down before, but i will try a rod on the bottom with some bait !

cheers :drink:
