Unlucky Mink

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about going with some Minkhounds for a couple of years now but circumstances just haven't let me. It sounds like great fun and this summer I will be doubling, no, trebling my efforts in arraging a day out. Does anybody on here have any contacts with Mink hounds that hunt in Lincolnshire/Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire. Please feel free to PM me, thanks.

I will post my experiences of my first day out.

sounds like a good bit of fun to me :good: might have to try it what kind of hounds are used :icon_redface:

Most Mink Packs consist of elderly or useless Fox Hounds, which are normally drafted from Fox Hunts. Unlike Fox Hunts, breeding does not take place to maintain a line. Some Mink Hunts choose to use Welsh Fox Hounds (Woollies), some English, but generally a mix of the two. Otter hounds, either crosses or pure bred are evident in some packs, but there are problems when 'The Big Boy' is encountered. It's at this point that the huntsman recognises the signs, and gets well off the water until the area is cleared.

very true ragley there plenty mink in scotland but not sure if there any mink hounds most get trapped and shot , are there any mink nounds up here in gods country

It would be wise to check with God before you chew on HIS mink.

Go to the following site.

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/competition...e.php?aid=37804

It will show the majority of Mink Hunts in the UK. There are more, but they do not publish their existence, because of anti activity.

I've had run-ins with these people and they're not pleasant, but an 18 Stone Loose Head Prop Forward can look after himself.

The best way, is to visit one of the accessible packs and ask around, or consider setting one up. The secret is to get hold of just one Entered Hound. The rest of the hounds will soon pick it up. Warning - Although hounds are entered on Mink, they NEVER loose the ability to go on Foxes. Any Whips need to be very fit to retrieve wayward hounds.
