FOXING LAST NITE

Travelled to the borders yesterday to try for some foxes.Anyway the weather was crap for lamping,the temp in the motor was -7c when we set off, there was a full moon and the ground was as hard as iron.It was like walking on corn flakes, impossible to be quiet.

 

After 1/2 an hour or so I managed to call a vixen in which tried to get round us but I managed to get a shot and knocked its lower jaw off with a 58 gr v-max

 

Carried on and about 1 hour later spotted another fox curled up in a ball in the middle of a stubble field.

I rested on the bonnet of the motor and managed to bag another vixen at 155 paces

Could have easily shot another but this fox decided to sit right on the skyline and would not move whatever squeak I tried, never mind it lives to hunt another day!!!

 

Bagged a few bunnies on the way which I was surprised at as the ground was really frosty!!

That's hardly something to be proud of, it may just be the way you worded it (if so I appologise and advise you to change the wording) but it sounded like you fluffed a head shot and smashed it's jaw off. Fair enough we all sometimes fluff a shot, but the proud smiley wasn't neccessary. JMO on what I took it to mean, I suppose it could well have been a headshot behind that destoyed the brain and then blew the jaw out, which is the most humane way, if a little messy.

as mentioned above do you mean you only knocked its jaw off? or did it come off as a result of the head shot.

Whippet..................why do people always have to nit pick???/

 

The fox was dead , the bullet had knocked its jaw off and and blew a hole in its lower neck

 

I take pride in killing my foxes humanely.................in fact I refused a shot at another the same night as I wasnt certain of a kill

Foxey is telling the truth.I was out with him one night and he wasnt sure of a clean kill so he shot all around it withiout hurting the fox at all. :11: :11: About 70yds wasnt it foxey :11: :11: :11:

nice one foxy what gun did you use the 58grn v-max in i tried to load them for my 243 but could not get them accurate??? i find them 95grn nosler are the bollocks for them

 

 

 

and they work well on the bambi

Must be a slow twist, your gun foxy? to stabilise a 58 grainer?forget the nit picking mate, anyone who does serious foxing knows full well you get shots like that, you also get runners you cant find too, but most will not say so, i will , i had one last time and didnt find it, but i,ll bet it was the first in 30 odd, this year.Look good sized animals too mate.

Those 58grainers are extremely accurate

 

Those foxes dont run off when hit by these mate!!

 

The only foxes that I have ever seen run when hit with a centrefire have been gut shot or a leg blown off..
