Guest pip
Mk 2 ,forget about it,Mk3 better and i think your only option for ferrets pity you where nt a bit closer i d sell you mine for half price. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
its got to be the mk3, if you think about it, it's got to be better than a mk2, some say the mk2 was only a prototype for the mk3 and should'ent have gone on sale, I dont think they have the pin point control on the back, which a lot of people think is only a volume control, but it ain't, it allows you to "home in" on the direction of the ferret, rather than just getting loads of lights and noise, surely you can order a mk3 on the net and have it delivered Quote Link to post
Glen Loth 1
My mk3 is the best money I have spent in ages. I am putting inexperianced ferrets into big warrens with confidence. The other major advantage on the big warrens is being able to "see" which part of the warren they are working. This means you can monitor the closest nets, a big advantage when its over twenty yards from side to side. My young jill became stationary for ten minutes, I dug about a foot and checked again, she was moving and bang, a bunny in the net. I don,t know if she was having trouble turning one or what but without out the finder she may have been there for much longer, and I feel happy being able to monitor their progress. I paid a bit for mine buying local, but I have back up service, warranty, etc. If you get a dud(unlikely but possible) from an O.S. seller what are you gunna do then?? cheers Quote Link to post

If you get a Mk111 make sure you keep the batteries clean and everything tight n dry.As Stubby has said the volume sensitivity knob is an important aid to location especially as the LED indicaters can be a bit ambiguous at times:thumbs: Edited March 24, 2008 by comanche Quote Link to post

Out of interest are there any old Grey box locaters(so-called Mk 1) in Australia?.A Mk111(and Mk11) collar will work with the old Grey locater box but the range is only nine or ten feet. If funds are a consideration it's maybe an option if you already have an old -style locater and are only upgrading because the original collars have been lost or broken. Quote Link to post

No doubt the world will be informed it it works and he'll buy a Mk3 if it does'nt.To me the Mk2 reminded me of the pre Grey box days when the crude locaters had a fixed depth of six foot and by moving the device nearer to the ferret the horrid sound reminicent of both an untuned radio and a M3(thanks for the muting with tape trick Stubby .So simple) simply increased. Most of us prefered to wait in the cold or used a line. Quote Link to post
