Daveo 61
Has anyone heard of or seen anyone using more exotic running dogs such as Chippiparai or Hortaya?? Or lurchers off them? How did they perform? They all appear to have been bred to catch hare and deer. I don't understand why Salukis were brought to these shore's but none of these others were? Any thoughts.? Well worth a read, not only for this chapter but in general, a classic 'the' first modern lurcher book. The nearest to an exotic I've come come across was when out running hares (pre ban) over a former tip that was near a housing estate. Our dog was bending holey feck out of this fine specimen when a woman came round the corner with two Afghans, the hare shot past and the first hairy womble jumped a feckin mile an made a bee line for the safety of the womans legs. The second looked startled and picked up the gauntlet! Wow, we thinks, this could be good.... but it was short lived, with puss hitting the straight and the lurcher gaining yards, the Afghan just couldn't get up there to the action and gradually came to a stop looked round and took a dump Shame really, as it could have been interestin but the look on the womans face was a picture, tryin to make out she didn't give a toss, when I'll bet with any runnin dog owner, she would have loved to see a bit more Oh yer, our dog came back with no prize either.....but hey, thats why its called 'hunting', not 'catching' eh?
