Not sure this is the right place for this question but here goes,

I know what Deerhounds were originally breed for but what if anything are they used for nowadays?

Might be a really obvious answer but I have no idea!

I saw some at the Shugborough Game fair and they are lovely looking dogs!

Both my lurchers have deerhound in and look completely different, one has the deerhoundy look and the other has taken more of the other looks in his make up, the one who has deer on both sides looks least like one but took the really late maturing side, but both are spot on on what they do the biggest takes rabbits with relative ease and he's 28 ins ATS pre ban, he used to make up on big stuff no probs, will try and get a picture up of them both so you can see the difference. have a chat with doxhope, he's prob forgotten more about deerhounds than most know!!!

Yip they maybe too big for rabbits, the most Ive had in one night with a pure deerhound was 27..so if you want any more than that, you might be better off with a lurcher. Every bitch Ive bred and ran was killing rabbits before it was a year old..Coronach Pennys Chieftain, probably the best modern day hare coursing deerhound won his first 32 dog stake at just under 16 months, and his second a few weeks later...yes some can be slow to mature, but not as slow as some would have us believe..

Any time you want to come up and see my puppies hon just pop up..not that I have any, but we could have a bit crack just the same
