I have just moved from Shropshire to Gloucestershire and have just had my FAC & SGC back from the local FAD, all fine, no probs.

I have an open FAC with a .22; 17HMR and .243 on. It was granted as open from day one because at the time I was an RFD and held (still hold) written permission outside the then police authority area of West Mercia (in north and mid Wales, Herefordshire and Fort William).

Now, even though my FAC is open the FAO tells me that they are unlikely to aprove my renewal later this year let alone leave it as open, unless I get some permission within their force area i.e Gloucestershire. I've never come accross this before, can they do that?

I've only just moved to the area, as such all of my shooting is outside the local area, and as we all know its not that easy to just get permission somewhere new!

The "official" line I'm told, is that they can't really do it, but it is at their discression. ie they wouldn't normally issue an FAC if you had no permission in the first place within the police authority area, as such they are even less likely to renew an open ticket; but as I already have an open ticket but no permission within their county its really up to them!!

Anyone come across the same thing?

Absolute bollocks ! unless you have done something to have them revoke the ticket, they cannot remove the open status. Take legal advise immediatly, and tell them you are taking it. You need NO written permission, ANYWHERE, once your ticket is "open"

Baldie, totally agree on the legal advice side of things, this sounds like it's about to get messy.

However, if there is no land to shoot on at all, then they can say no good reason and therefore No, surely? But, this situation is no land within their force area, well bollocks to that! If you want to commute 100 miles for a shoot, that doesn't make the land any less valid or the good reason any less good. So I would think the BASC would have a field day with that one.

Cheers guys, much as I had suspected. Have spoken to BASC about it and they say the same, although it is "understandable" that plod would like me to have some rights in their force area (Glos).

Like you all know I'm sure, its not a two min job to get permission, esp when you have just moved to a new area. TBH, I have no desire to have any permission in the area as all my shooting is covered; places I have leased for business and on friends and family land, it just hapens to not be in Glos.....

We'll see how it panns out!

Hi. I'm new here but local to you. This situation seems really out of order. The Gloucester police are a little strange at times but I've had no real problems with them. If you don't mind, send me some more details via PM (location etc). I have a couple of permissions I don't get to as often as I'd like, so I may be able to get you some non regular permission that would at least :censored: the police off for you. They have no right to do this to you, but if I can help make the situation easier for you then I'm happy to help :)

I'm only offering because this situation could get expensive and could also take this guys sport away from him. It's not often I share my permissions with anyone, but in this situation someone has to help out. I'd hope someone would do it for me if I was in the same situation. As it says at the top of the beginner section "we must always remember together we stand divided we fall.....". I'd hate to see anyone have their sport taken away from them!

We're going to meet up at a local pub for a chat. I'm really hoping I can come up with something for him, I'm pretty sure I can. I've had some funny ideas put forward by the FEO in question myself. One that really sticks in my mind was on a land check. I couldn't shoot over a path across a field that was in clear view so totally safe, even though it wasn't a documented footpath (trespassers short cut)! I just agreed with him and moved on, but it's total :censored: isn't it.

They also wanted to see evidence of Deer damage before they'd allow me to shoot them on the ground

I find the best way to go is to supply whatever is required to get what you want. Once you have it you can carry on as normal (following the law as it's written, not how they want it to be).
