A Saluki for the fox hunter?

I have always admired fox killing lurchers to me they are the ultimate in running dogs,my question is how usefull were/are pure bred salukis for the regular taking of fox and if so what lines or strains would be most likely to produce decent fox killlers.

I had a pure bred show stock saluki for two wks while its owner went on holiday, he was a nasty b*****d around other dogs but ok with my whippet/grey. and he took the first fox he ever saw, and killed three in a week on the lamp.

I heve seen a salukixgreyhound bitch, whos blood went back to the Lucky dog,take six foxes on the lamp but I thought she was the exception,its just that a pure saluki with those feathered ears etc wouldnt attract the attention to an urban based hunter that a bullx or other types might.

well up until my last saluki line bred alll the tor of dartmoor dogs killed foxes deer hare rabbit and one who woz in the 85 pound sectar well he wasnt scared of toothed qaurry and anything else he caught , he got put down , but my sol was 28 inches fox killer so was sid anothe saluk greyhound , ive never killed tons as well 40 pound a roe and fech all a fox , but we caught enough three on won night when i went othe r places , but ive saw plenty saluks not intrested

i wouldnt get a pure saluk dog for foxes but entred right they should kill a fox if bred from good working strains , ive saw some in the states tackle coyote but they were greyhound cross etc your wasteing a whole lot of dog for foxing mate get a furry looking thing like a wheaton cross, or go when no cs about

There's a clip on u tube of arabian saluki's killing kayotee's single handed ,and there bigger than any fox google it and you might find it

i,ve got a saluki and he takes fox all day long, there hard to come across a saluki that kills fox

depends on how many times you want to be handling the fox , quote me if im wrong but i would say a 1st cross bullx will destroy a fox quicker than a suluki

seen that ,some sort of that, tried to find it again but couldnt it ,if they were all like that i would get one tomorrow

Its horses for course's ive seen some dog's jack on hare's, some lurchers wont touch a longtail but ive seen some saluki bred dogs butcher fox's and some that's had a fox turn and spap his snout never strike again, but also seen collieX cross dogs jack on both it's a funny question but one thing for nearly shure even thou i dont do it before anyone start's, id bet if your dog would kill a cat it will kill a fox

Best fox dog I've seen was a 3/4 saluki 1/4 greyhound

 

But I havent seen that many dogs run, this dog did the job very well though :-)
