To carry on somewhat from a previous thread, I noticed in the Deer Initiative posted down in the deer management section, it says 220 and the min wght for Munts and CWD is 50grn, yet there is a calibre but no min wght for all other deer species. I thought this was 100grn, any light out there. Thanks

BASC says 100 grain for deer in Northern Ireland. 100 grain for big deer in Scotland, 50 grain for roe deer. England it must be 243 or bigger (OK, 240, but there isn't one ) and have 1700 ft/lbs. The energy requirement seems to be stable across the countries.

 

Odd that people do 243s that don't stabilize a 100-grain bullet. But then, it's a varmint calibre that does deer, or so they tell me. Certainly mine will be, likely 75-grain - should do both. (or not? I know nothing yet )

Only Calibre, power and "expanding" legally defined for larger deer...no minimum bullet weight.. Suggestions by several organisations of 100g but nothing in law that I am aware of.

 

Put me right someone if I have missed something.

No, I made a few calls today and the man at BASC confirmed just what Mr Logic pointed out. And Fed 75's gonna just scrape that, though I got some ,s today and that tidied my other problem up got the group within 1" with the mod on as well However the man from BASC asked if I had tried the Fed 100grns as he would be happier. Thank yoo all and Baldie and Snapshot for the pointers from the other thread. Happy shooting.

Not a problem mate glad to help, the only one extra bit of advice i could give you is to use the heaviest bullet that will stabilise in your gun and gice you a fairly good grouping, Needless to say the bullet has to be expanding, Any varmint bullet will explode on impact, but may not kill the animal in question.

One that will retain most of its weight to will be best. but this can only be looked at from shooting an animal and looking at the bullet if still in the wound chanel, or by searching the net....... good luck with your endavours.
