Deker 3,491
Took Mr_Logic out yesterday on a new piece of land I picked up on Thursday (actually to be specific we went in his motor). Anyway, the Farmer has a problem with most things but specifically the Deer and Fox. I already know the land quite well as I've been shooting on his neighbours for a while and get lots of the critters, and seen lots on his land. So off we go nice and early about 2.00pm to have a good look round in daylight. I'm out with the centrefire and Mr_L takes his rimmy, some 3 hours later having seen lots of signs but virtually no life its into the pub (next door) for a quick Coke and crisps before heading out for the night. Country pubs..don't you just love them, a few weeks back the Landlord had asked me for a Fox tail, it was delivery day, he was pleased as punch: "that's alright boys, drinks and crisps on me" 5.45pm, change of tools and lamping kits bolted on we are pounding the beat again, Mr_L takes out his Hornet, and I drop down to my CZ Silhouette. Half and hour later the first rabbit falls to my rimmy, after a great deal of shuffling and kicking he finally admits to the inevitable as we get over to him. Charlie, frustratingly keeps sticking his head up all over the place but doesn't allow us to get a single shot off at him. Even more frustratingly the deer have settled everywhere for the night and seem totally at ease with our presence allowing us to get within 30 odd yards at times without budging. Eventually a couple more bunnies come into view and my rimmy and the Hornet both let go at one, as we walk over I am adament it was me who stopped it but Mr_L is confident it was his Hornet...he smiles as we arrive to find 90% of bunnies head missing to which he instantly claims credit. I've never heard anything so preposterous, after all I was using the .22LR HP subs. We move on having a chuckle, we needed to do something to keep warm, it was -3C at this time. Time for a quick one at the pub before we head home, Mr_L stops at a large puddle and asks for some light on his feet so he can wash his mud/cows doings covered boots, we have to break the ICE first. Back in the pub just in time for last orders, almost rigid from the cold (always seems to hit you more afterwards than at the time) nobody can believe we have been out that long, especially seeing as we have only managed a single bunny each in nearly 9 hours of shooting! Theres always another day! Deker Edited February 17, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post

harrycatcat 31
You cant win em all mate. Its not the winning its the taking part that counts. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Thinking about it, the rabbit in 'dispute' (because it was very blatant ) actually got away, since Deker shot at it, it ran, stopped and I shot at it. The dead rabbit was actually the one I shot before Deker saw one... Quote Link to post
