A little daunted BUT..

Recommended Posts

£26 down and the Birchwood Casey Perma Blue kit arrived yesterday from Ramsbottoms. Today I made a start using the kit items and following the instruction booklet to the letter.

Three cleans with Cleaner Degreaser, washing and drying between treatments.

A seriously good treatment of Blue and Rust Remover then washing and drying.

Apply the Perma Blue using both the mop supplied and fine wire wool.

FECKING SHITE

I am so bloody pissed off, the surface is streaky and patchy. Contacted Ramsbottoms, they dont know the product, some feckin help that is, I have also emailed Birchwood Casey in the states to get some help and I have no option but to wait and see what they come back with and at the same time Ramsbottoms have a piece of my mind and advised them that they have 'Duty of care ' to me so get something sorted.

I could chuck this whole fecking outfit in the sea and trust me, it has crossed my mind.

If these cannot be improved somehow, I have little choice but to spray paint the gun but that will be another £30+ for a primer, paint and top coat and I am really not sure if I can be bothered, at the moment it is going to be put to one side and forgotten about until I want some more abuse or if Birchwood casey can offer me some good advice but I am not holding too much hope.

Without any doubt whatsoever, I will not be renovating any gun ever again..................😡😡😡

As some of you know I was given an unloved HW77 in the summer of 25 which needs the stock sorting and the metalwork has rust all over however this bloody old wreck is a tack driver, even in my hands,

Before I start properly, I have lightly rubbed the barrel with some wire wool I picked up from the rfd which lifted all the surface rust and I will try on the chrome pellet port although I really dont

Just remember when u do the stock  And you have finished it all    DO IT AGAIN  u want it like glass nice and smooth  Atvb Jimmy 👍 👍 👍

Take a deep breath....and give Big Mac a PM😁

Jimmy knows the issues I have had but not this one so no doubt we will be talking soon but I am going to wait to hear back from Birchwood Casey then we will see what they suggest Daniel. If all else fails, spray paint..........🙄

Going on some US sites, I found that cold bluing doesn't work on nickel steel leaving the sort of stains I have on mine. With this in mind, I can only guess that this gun fits that group so I don't think it is worth messing around any more waiting for a response from Birchwood Casey as I doubt it will ever come.

I have just been talking to my shooting buddy who has a nice heated garage so I think we will set up a spray station in there once I have the paints and get it done once and for all. I know some of you will turn your nose up at painted metalwork but I can live with it and it is really the only course of action open to me as I have no intention of stripping it down and trying hot bluing,  I know when I am beaten..............🤔

They did not do a nickel and stainles barrel or action on the 77 Phil so it should still take the bluing

It may be just a case of finding the right one that Will take to it

I wonder if it is worthwhile phoning Hull Cartridge to see if they know because I could buy another 10 products and be no better off. After all Jimmy I have used the two most popular products on the UK market.

Aww bugger. Bite the bullet. Strip it (its simple) send it to that creakoting place you mentioned. A tack driver you mention, well worth the effort. Clean  out polish piston, new piston seal and refit same spring. Spraypaint will soon look shite (i made that mistake - you will regret it) too good of a gun to bodge especially if you get the stock looking good.
