Guest MOLLY
I do the same socks just slightly differently All the dogs have different styles. They all hunt up/push cover for themselves, all chase, all mark...just differently. The woods are deep and thick here, if you want to bush for roe you would need more than one terrier. The smallest terrier caught a hare because the biggest lurcher chased it towards her (backwards i know ) Ive had terriers hold a roe down for the lurchers. I love it, and cannot understand why more people dont do it? Moll. Quote Link to post

DiStuRBeD 0
heres how i do it have dogs in the back of the ute, unchained, so they can jump off when they want drive around spotlighting(lamping u lot call it) till quarry is spotted, get in a suitable position if possible, tell the dog to get on and follow quarry with the light till the dog makes a catch at times we walk, with dogs on leads and then let them chase, or i will walk with dog off lead to hunt up for himself and spotlight whether i hunt with 1,2,3 or more doesnt matter and yes EAT what you can, i hate waste, i try and use as much as possible Quote Link to post

Guest MOLLY
id love that ground you hunt on moll i got some terrain like that but no game on it and i take the lurcher and terrier whilst mooching the terrier has a go lol... Most days draw a blank lamper, it isnt often we catch, but the dogs keep fit looking and trying...keeps them sharp. Keep at it, the pic of Jazz chasing the rabbit i took yesterday, in 2yrs that is the first time there has ever been a rabbit there and i walk it most days. This is the only flat field i ever see holding game. You can see at the back were the roe are it is a large woodland. Where i am standing it is very rough, rush, grass thistles etc, the same on the right and the left is a small road followed by more rough then another large woodland. Moll. Quote Link to post
LDR 29
For me it all depends where and what really, if its just goin for a walk with dogs then they'll all be off and whatever gets up will have its work cut out to make it to safety!!! even at this time, if i think i particular peice of cover may hold a flush then the spaniel will be put in with the lurchers on either side or either end!!! if going out for something specific, then the dogs will be on slips ready to go as areas are walked up!!! lamping will usually involve dogs on slips with alternate goes!!! dogs and ferrets get whats caught along with friends, family and my slender figure...... Guest joe ox
Moll, What your doing is most definitely not wrong! In my teen years I would get up at breaking light set of mooching with a ferret, nets, terriers and lurchers and sometimes not return home till dark. I used to catch rabbits, hares, rats, foxs, mice, deer, pheasants and anything else I came across. I have some very good memorys of those years Edited February 14, 2008 by joe ox Quote Link to post
