Knifebar 0
Some time ago I made a home built Trap. I have tried evrything I can think of to trap them. It has been pointless, not a single Magpie all my work building this trap has been for nothing I have moved it I have put different things in it. All I seem to catch is Feral Cats. At one particular incident there was 10 Magpies around it but none would go in. Help Help Knifebar Quote Link to post

stork 1
looks very good first things first did you have a fake nest built in on off the trap doors eith a few eggs in secondly was it some where they could sit and look at it ie under a tree perch i used to crack 2 eggs on top of the trap so they could feed of it and get use to it then usally the next morning eggs on top gone and maggy in the trap Quote Link to post

What exactly should I do to attract and trap them. P.S. I live in the countryside, maybe this is making them spooky. Knifebar Quote Link to post
stork 1
the country side ones are eaiser to trap as they are use to eggs and nestr get some hay layer the bottom with it so you cant see the wire bottom pad it down in the middle then put 3 eggs in the nest or put a dead bunny gutted so they can see the flesh nest always works for me Quote Link to post

Guest little_lloyd
I normally place my larson on a spot ive seen the magpies that day and will normally have one or two the next morning,, But in the winter they are less likely to go for the eggs ive found,, ive got my trap out there baited with a fake nest in one of the compartments and a few smashed eggs on the top of the cage,,, It wont be too long till one drops by i should think. Some people say a small mirrior laid on the floor near the eggs in the trap helps. Once you get your first bird you will catch loads of the buggers. Good luck Terry Quote Link to post

Good luck Terry I hope so Terry, I have loads of them here. I laid of for a while shooting them to try and trap them as I be away working and don't have alot of time to hunt them. Today I got really pissed with them and laid a bread trap. Nothing happened for about 2 hours although they sat in a tree 300 yrds away. Then on edge of dark 2 hooded crows dropped in for the bread and for about 15 mins the Magpies moved closer and then watched. Just before the bread was gone they swooped in and tried to snatch and fly. BANG No.6 one less. I think I shall try this agin. But I would like the trap to work as everyone here is confident it will work and also I put alot of time making it, whilst neighbours are taking the piss that its only good for CATS! Not funny. If not the local keepers will have call birds very soon so they may be able to help you. Knifebar (at the ends of his tether with it) Quote Link to post
