How to use these and what are they used for?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Found these a while ago, but I'm not sure about the proper use of this type of trap.

Do I have to modify the trigger and on what type of quarry are they used ; rats or birds ???

They are made out of brass / steel wire, they look handmade and have different sizes.

All info appriciated,

cheers,

Ratbuster,

They are called Lynex or bird traps, made in sizes from 2" up to some large ones at 15" in width. the Americans call them 'Italian Bird Traps' although most of them come from France.

The commonest sizes are around 4" wide and were used to catch small birds for the pot, baited with a grain of wheat or barley and hidden under the dust of the rickyard.

Thank you OTC, You made me a wiser man

Will have to work out how to adjust the trigger, so they will "snapp" more easier than they do at the moment.

And NO I won't use them to catch birds! (but could give them a try on some mice in the shed, baited with a small piece of bacon)

The only animals which are allowed to be trapped in Holland are rats & mice, nothing else.

(These traps came also with a tube of ratting glue, looks Italian made)

Cheers,

Can you still buy them on the continent OTC or are they collectors items only? :hmm:

Most of the ones I have seen are old ones but I think that someone is still making them as I see nice shiny looking ones from time to time, in stainless steel which cannot be very old.

They're being banged out somewhere still. And in the dark metal too. They appear on eBay now and then. Fresh supplies for the eastern europeans entrenched in english enclaves and decimating the garden bird populations locally for snackettes.

After getting the right name of these traps from OTC I started Googling and found this:

They are still for sale and indeed French made, advertised as useable for vermin (nuisibles) and rats & mice (rats & souris)
