young1982 1
I've got a jill who loves to play bite my hand it doesn't hurt at all and I think it's partly my fault because of how a used to play fight with her but it's starting to get on my tits, she's not a year old yet and i'm assuming like any you animal she will grow out of it as she get older. Am I right in thinking she will grow out of it or is there something I can do to stop it? Quote Link to post

stubby 175
mustard or vinegar are better, some animals, rat and mice for instance, have a high tolerance to "bitter" taste, ie lemon, dunno if it would be simular with ferts Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Well why do you want her to stop doing whats natural to her she play bites her cage mates & they do it all there lives, she sees you as a ferret, ok your skins not as tough as a ferrets but i consider it as normal for a ferret to do this. It goes with the territory Quote Link to post
stubby 175
have to agree with kay on that one, mine do it, without any force in their jaw, once used to it, I find it very re-assuring that my ferts are ok with me saying that, I have one jill "brenda" who try's taking lumps outta my other half, yet is fine with me....must me a woman/jealously thing Quote Link to post

young1982 1
Glad to know it's normal it's my first ferret and i'm still learning. It's a smart little thing but that does have it's down side, she's just discovered that she can climb up the outside of my trousers. stubby, its funny you should say about your ferret taking chunks out the other halfs hand, mine wouldn't let go of the brother in laws finger not so long ago she also claimed a small of bit skin as her's last week. thanks everyone for the advice Quote Link to post
stubby 175
hanging on and not letting go is a different kettle of fish, that to me would mean a biter mine only ever mouth, no force what so ever, apart from brenda of course, but they are only nips, using a bit of force, but letting go straight away, its as if she's saying, he's mine Quote Link to post
young1982 1
She's not a biter in that sence, I know what thats like. I used to have two ferrets her sister would bite hard and not let go, one day she bite my thumb bad as I was putting a dish of food in the cage it fecking hurt and blead like a pig need less to say she's no longer with us. When she bites me there's no force behind it and you can tell it's only play by the way she's bouncing around so i not bothered if it's normal. As for the brother in law maybe she doesn't like him or she can pick that he's nervous, I thinks it's funny watching her chase him round our kitchen. Maybe it's my inexperience with ferrets, don't forget i'm still learning Edited January 18, 2008 by young1982 Quote Link to post
knocker 0
i agree with kay, all three of mine like to jump out of the hutch and lick my hand and play bite/fight, i think they are genuinely pleased to see me and find it natural to interact with what they view as "a big ferret" however, soon as they get in the carrying box, it's a different story. two of mine are 14 months and my big hob is over 2 years and they sulk if i ignore them , don't stop the playing, ferrets need to have fun in my opinion and if they have fun with you then all the better Quote Link to post

andy s410c 63
My 2 also have a bit of play biting/hand,finger licking when i have playtime with them i find it as acceptence with them.I have never owned/handled a real aggresive fert, as a teenager i aquired a large poley hob that was a biter due to the condition he was kept in however after a few weeks of tlc, food& clean living he became soft as putty but a hard, tough worker. If a fert wants to hurt you it will but its like any animal it behaviour reflects on its keeper... Apparently nipping or play biting is just a normal invitation to play, you should feel privelaged that your ferret has accepted you as an equal my good fellow. Quote Link to post
