It looks like the next phase of HS2 is going to be scrapped immediately, I predicted that it wouldn't get beyond Birmingham. Great news if you ask me, instead of destroying more of our environment, use money to improve what we've already got.

The cost of HS2 has shot up from £32.7billion when approved and the eastern leg will now be all but axed...

I can't see this being a permanent decision, who knows though, I hope so.

I just don't think the reward was worth the costs and environmental damage.

I suppose it's on how you look at things.

I get that the proposed plans would have a knock on effect and likely benefit existing lines and help relieve road congestion but that could be managed by other means, i.e., working from home, etc.

I'm wounded, some cracking houses were up for sale on an estate up this way, I imagine the signs will be getting flattened as we speak. ?
