The DWTC Dog Show Sunday 30th May 2021

After a year of complete lockdown and relentless promises on the road back to normality, and not a chance of a dog show on the horizon, finally in 2021 there was light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

With Covid 19 leaving a trail of sadness and destruction behind in our homes, it was a real treat to hear the dog shows were on the way back albeit a little short circuited.

So it was fitting to come in on a high with the annual DWTC dog show  Sunday 30th May 21.

It was a very special treat to hear the laughter of children playing around in the sun, the banter among sporting men and women, and above all the sound of barking dogs around the field.

By 12noon the field was filled to capacity and every person I spoke to, and that was many, were all so glad to be out on a fine summers day and back at the sport we all love.

As the DWTC had  Covid 19 restrictions in place, it was  showing only. All rings were well spaced out, with all four rings filled with Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Strong Dogs.

Time passes  quickly, and very soon showing time was commencing.

The childrens handling class was first to kick off. It was so satisfying if not rewarding to see the smile of pride on these little faces as they lead their canine companions around the show ring. Well done to all. You were all winners on the day.

A Big Congratulations to Aimee and all above winner, and also to every one who took part on the day. You are all winners in my eyes.

It was raffle time, and as usual it generated a lot of fun and excitement. Some happy campers went home with some good prizes. The smile on Paul Mc Keowns face told it all when he won the bottle of Vodka. John Mc Stay was raging he did not win it.

There was a very poignant moment at the DWTC show, when Tom Barry called a minutes silence for Tony Lee ( Junior) who passed away during the year. Tony judged at Toms show last year, but it was not to be this year. Life can be so cruel. Thanks to everybody who paid their respects with such reference.

As the day was coming to a close Tom announced he was making some presentation.

The first presentation was for Clubman of the Year. This accolade went to :

Mark Ewbanks  for his servces to the club over the years.

The second presentation went to a very special person in Toms life and the rock behind the man. Yes it was Toms wife Leanne who works tirelessly with Tom organising his shows over the years. Well deserved Leanne and much appreciated by the man of the house.

And Finally, the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges.

Whippets / Colin Tucker, Lurchers/Rab Kinkaid, Terriers/ Trevor Coulter, Strong Dogs/Bertie Lee. You all carried out your duties with efficiency and many thanks for that.

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Tom and Leanne Barry, John Barry, Ethan, Morgan and back up team, you are simply the best.  Through these very difficult Covid times you run your show with impeccable organisation and within Covid regulations.

It was very evident a lot of preparation and hard work went on behind the scenes to make this show a success and a most enjoyable day for everyone.

Tom, we all had a very enjoyable day at  your show, and although  I know you have said this was the last time you will run a show, it is in your blood and hopefully we will meet again at your show in 2022. Never say Never.

To we meet again, God Bless and Stay Safe.

This was my first time going to a working dog show and it won't be my last. It was a great show, well run. It was the strong dogs/bull breeds attracted me initially, but it has definitely sparked and interest in the other breeds on show on the day. Some great dogs on show. Well done to everyone involved. I'll definitely be back next year.

I went to the Down dog show on Sunday, thought that there was way to many pitbull breeds at the show, I go to the shows to see hunting & working dogs not bully breeds. There was no category for foxhounds, harriers, gundogs or coverdogs but a whole ring dedicated to non working pitbulls, staffs, English bulls & bullys. It was very disappointing from my point of view & I would enjoy if the working dog shows were left to the hunting breeds.

I would like to thank everyone that attended the show it was a massive turn out with top quality dogs in all the rings which left the judging very difficult.

Weather being fine also helped us.A big thanks to appleblossom for all her write ups over the years and her energy to keep going behind a good woman is always a good man big John who's been at her side for years.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
