Scout's second trip out.

A couple of weeks ago I took my Kelpie pup out for her first trip out with a ferret. I only took the jill as although the pup is friendly with all the ferrets, neither of the hobs are too fussed about dogs whereas the jill doesn't mind them. She was just shy of six months at the time and so had seen only a couple of rabbits while out mooching with the older two. As a result I only took a couple of nets along and decided that as I didn't yet know what a mark from her looked like , I'd simply put the jill to ground every time Scout showed even the slightest interest so that I'd get a better picture of what wasn't a mark as well as what was. We managed to get a couple of bolts, which is saying something thanks to the myxy around here at the moment, and these were enthusiastically chased down the hedge by the pup. No opening up fortunately: touch wood. After one of the runs, she returned just as the jill was emerging and licked her all over the face in gratitude. :clapper:

Yesterday, she came out for her second trip and this time we took a few more nets along to see if she could avoid walking all over them. I'd tried a couple of buries which she seemed to be uninterested in but as I couldn't be certain I thought I'd put the jill down anyway. Nothing bolted from either of these but she gave a slightly more definite mark about twenty or thirty yards down the hedge from the last bury. Sure enough we had one good bolt, which she followed down the hedge line to remark it in some holly, and a two foot dig to a buck which had been bottled up by the jill. :toast:

Thanks Fubar. My older two Kelpies both have their good and bad points and I'm pleased that the pup seems to have the better points of both at the moment, though of course it's early days yet. Will keep you all updated as she, hopefully, progresses.
