A bit of British history, about the Napoleon wars, and how the British built watch towers along out coast. 

This one is down the road from me. I know it's in irish, but ye should get the gist of it.

There's a few along the coast here.

These two points here, golman head, and slyne head. It's was called the gates of hell by the British navy when they had to watch this part of the coast line

Theres loads of Martello towers all around the world still.....theres one in Sydney Harbour if im not wrong....i used to have a few bits of property on the East Coast around Clacton close to a few of them i think theres still 10 or 12 down that part of the coast Frinton/Walton etc i think a few of them have been bought for residential but the majority of them in Britain at least are listed buildings.
