The DWTC Dog Show and Race Day, Sunday 12thMay 19.

The sun was breaking through the clouds as we drove through the heart of Apple Blossom country, on our way to the Annual DWTC Dog Show and Race Day at Sandy Heaks Modern Farm on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Scarva.

As the time for shining in the field has finished for another season, the DWTC dog show was a good opportunity to give our canine friends a treat after the long cold winter.  By midday the field was filled to capacity, with barking dogs, trailers, and families, all taking in the first rays of the summer sun.

Shows are an exciting way to challenge both yourself and your dog, while meeting people in an atmosphere of healthy competition. And certainly there was plenty of competition on the day.

There was a big turnout and a great mix of Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets,  Strong dogs and racing dogs. In the ring it was a judges nightmare and some very hard decisions to make.

Some very tasty burgers were cooked and served on site by Trisha Gilmore, and collars and leads sold from the stand of Cahill Collars.

As I walked around the rings it was evident how popular this show is.    It is always a pleasure to stop and chat with the good men and women of the Canine world, who are always so courteous and respectful to me. These people are all good country sports people, who love to show and race their dogs in the summer and work in the field in winter.

Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself, and very soon it was time to start the show.

Here are the Overall Showing Results.

Congratulations to all winners in the showing and racing and well done to all.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day for a job well done.

Whippets =  Michael Mc Grath

Lurchers =   Jonny Wilson

Terriers/ Strong Dogs =

Raymond Crilly.

Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.

And Finally, Finally, the memories of this show will linger on with me for some time to come. The craic and the banter was good and a brilliant atmosphere all around.

None of this would have been possible without Leanne and Tom Barry and all their brilliant back up team who all worked so tirelessly to make this show so successful on the day.

Some sleepless nights in the Barry household, but all well worth it and a real credit to Tom and Leanne and everybody involved.

Roll on 2020 for more of the same.

      A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
      Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
      I am following the path God Laid for me
      I took his hand when I heard him call
      I turned my back and left it all
      I could not stay another day
      To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
      I found a peace at close of day.
      Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
      I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
      Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
      Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
      Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
      John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
      May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
