Combined Clubs Dog Show and Race Day  at Annaghmore  Race Track Sunday 29th April 18.

As I drew back the curtains on a sunny April morning, my inner thoughts ran riot with my brain thinking of the tasks that lay ahead of me on this fine spring day. My biological clock was telling me Sunday 29th April had arrived bright and early and was the day for the Combined Clubs Dog Show and Raceday in Annaghmore.

As we drove off from home with dogs in toe  enroute to the show, one could see without doubt why this beautiful countryside is called the Orchard County. Bramley Apple Orchards line the quiet country roads and are in full bloom at this time of year, and lead down to Annaghmore Racetrack and our Dog Show venue for the day.

As it was a beautiful day, with the sun shining continuously, families and country sportsmen and women came out in their droves. By 12 noon the field was full to capacity with every breed of dog you could name.

As I walked around the field, it was nice to talk to so many old friends and also make some new ones. On my travels I met up with  John Keane and his mate Gerry, who travelled all the way from Sixmilebridge, in County Clare with their winning terriers. Also, all the way from Carlow were the McGrath brothers, Michael/Jack and Stephen. These are all great guys with an over whelming love of their dogs and a keen interest in country sports.

Time passes so quickly when you are enjoying yourself, and it was soon time for the Racing and Showing to start.

And Finally, I would like to thank the judges  for carrying out their remit so diligently on the day.

Lurchers : Jack and Michael Mc Grath/ Whippets : Rick Hepburn/ Terriers and Strong Dogs : Neil Pinkerton / Childrens Handling Class: Margarert Mc Stay.

Many thanks to all for a job well done .

I took some photographs and are up on my timeline at the moment

And Finally, Finally may I take this opportunity to thank most sincerely Tom Barry, Ethan Barry and Dessie Mackin of the Combined Clubs and all their loyal band of helpers on the day, for a great family day out at this top dog show. I know Tom,Ethan and Dessie  put a lot of hard work and organization in leading up to this show and probably a few sleepless nights. But everything went like clockwork on the day, well organised, and a credit to the  Club.

To the Combined Clubs  team we all enjoyed ourselves down there  at  Annaghmore Race Track on Sunday,  and I am looking forward to more of the same shortly.

Margaret Mc Stay

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
