Tremo 138
Right chaps, opinions please ..... I purchased a Bergara B14 early last year. I loved the rifle from day one, apart from the trigger, which although usable, was a little heaver than I prefer. I soon replaced the standard trigger with a new Timney Calvin Elite. Happy days! Everything was fine from then on and it was a pleasure to use. A number of days ago, for no apparent reason, when I cycled the bolt the rifle would not set the trigger. . I brought it home and removed the stock to inspect. I couldn't see any issues. At this time I decided to add a little more weight to the trigger as the rifle is going to be used as more of a field gun. I tested the cocking out of the stock and it operated as expected. Happy days ... again. I replaced the stock and thought nothing more of it. Forward to tonight ... I dry fired the rifle just to check that the problem had not returned. All was well. I then ventured out for a bit of foxing, only to return home in a short while. The problem had returned. The rifle would not cock regardless of how many times I cycled the bolt. . I have since removed the stock to investigate once again and low and behold it cocks perfectly out of the stock. I am at a loss. No work has been carried out to the rifle since I installed the Timney last year. I can't see what has changed. Perhaps I just can't see the wood for the trees? Cheers. Tremo Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Well you've narrowed it down to the stock if it cycles properly out of it. Is it touching on something when you pull the bolt back? Or possibly overtightened the stock screws? That's the first thing I'd check. Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
Thanks Walshie. I will be investigating the problem further today. What I can't seem to grasp is that how it has gone from a perfect performing rifle, literally overnight. The dremel could be coming out of the tool box later. ;-) .I'll keep you informed.Cheers chum.Tremo I was thinking of changing the stock to a pillar bedded one anyway. Any recommendations? Jax13 251
Is the stock wooden or synthetic? If it's wood I would suggest either over torqued screws or the wood 'moving' because of cold / damp or oil swelling or moving the wood Either way if it is working fine out the stock and used to be fine then either conditions or your maintenance regime is making the stock move in relation to the action / trigger block. 2 Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
Thanks for the suggestions. After closer inspection I found that the trigger unit was touching the stock and the bottom metal. Out came the dremel. . I also increased the over travel by 1/4 turn. Happy days! Everything is now working as it should. My cat and dog have now come out of hiding as a result! Cheers. Tremo Quote Link to post
