dark-destroyer-85 636
Good watch on BBC sad to see an industry that has served our country so well just disappear like that
C556 351
If we still kept the cheap coal fired power stations running instead of expensive windmills and gas fired power stations, we would've still had some deep pits open. At least there's still some smallmines open and they'll probably be the future of coal production in this country with their smaller overheads now that many of the opencast pits are shutting as well. You're far better off with British coal rather than some of the unwashed foreign muck that comes in.

3175darren 1,102
I worked in the industry, and infact did work at kellingkey for 5 yr, the loss of the mining industry was a huge thing in them communities, coupled with the boys in the steel industry, shipbuilding, those industries made this country great, I enjoyed mining and have fond memories, the crack with the lads was outstanding, but the strike tore the belly out of the community, a young man could get a good apprenticeship, now the only real place for that, is the army,
