Badman 1
I'm after a bit of advice. My Lurcher bitch used to be quite good a retrieving a rabbit when caught on the lamp but the past few times he has been retrieving back to me within about 5 yards then placing it down (still alive) for it to run off and for him to have to catch it again. I'm stuck on how to break his very frustrating habit he's picked up. Anyone had this problem before and managed to solve it? Thanks. Quote Link to post
terryd 8,939
Mine did that last year only mine goes 10 yards the opposite direction and he put it down for it to run off and he had to catch it again. It happened to coincide with him nailing a squatter and getting a right mouth full of mud and fur. Maybe related maybe not. But it only lasted a few trips and he soon got fed up of them running off. Now he still goes in the opposite direction but keeps them pinned till i get there. If they try run off he just pushes them onto the floor until I take them Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,152
Walk backwards squeaking like there's a fox about , if or when he comes in kneel down and try not to snatch it out of his mouth. Try and get one hand on the rabbit and stroke him with the other hand. Good idea to have a length of paracord taped onto your lamp handle so you can hang your lamp round your neck leaving hands free. Also search Skycats and Casso posts some good info on them. 1 Quote Link to post
