terryd 8,955
Just nipped out with the stop nets on Saturday. The other day the dog flushed two and they ran down the hedge row then into a thicker one at the bottom. I thought we would see if we could cut them off at the pass. Snuck into pposition and got a net down then walked to the top and started checking coming back down. Nothing doing until we got the bottom then the dog started sneaking and I could see a rabbit with the onset of mixy under an old trailer. The dog went for it and despite only being able to see out one eye the rabbit dodged him around the trailer but then came out into a patch of stingers and popped out the other side. The dog knows all about this coming out the other side lark and was there ready so game over. I had my first ever retrieve because he didnt have any where else to go but past me that was quite novel. You never no lol Had a lay in today till 8 bit unusual for me. I did have a spot in mind for a bit of ferreting but preferred an early start. By about 11 I thought sod it and popped half dozen nets in me pocket and away. With in a few minutes the dog marked a clump of bramble. Lobbed a few stones in and out it came. Dog got his nose down and gave a bit of a mark on a one hole under tree but left it and carried on hunting for it. I called him back into the area and he checked it again so that was good enough. Popped the young jill in and she showed quite quick so i was starting to doubt but then she was gone a while then i heard it all kicking off. The dog was in a sit by me and we both saw the rabbit by the entrance and it shuffled back into the hole. Fair play dog never budged. Then the ferret came up behind it and it edge towards the net before taking the plunge and going for it. Job done so a quick pic and home Been working all summer on controlling the dog which i know some don't like I do espeacially when you need to be a bit precise. It seems to be paying off. we never get numbers but its all about quality that one rabbit keeps the dog content and happy and me too lol Now I love watching nose work its the best for me. Should have got a hound maybe lol but I got the next best thing There was some thing in the cover a good few hundred yards away but with no gun it was left to be flushed another day I just sat there with the dog letting him take in the strong breeze. Just a slice of heaven for me that is 6 Quote Link to post
