What a tool of a bloke . Mind of misinformation lol . Cheers for the answer rusty

Was he saying that about trout or just for any river?

What kind of fishing does he do?

Im off on holiday to a caravn park by newcastle emlyn and ive found out they have on site fishing from the river running through it . Ive always fancied fishing but ive only done it a few times . I just asked him what kid i needed to buy (excluding permits etc) I mentioned spinners, floats and hooks etc and he just said floats are banned on most rivers in the uk and it didnt ring true to me . Like walshie said i couldnt really see the problem with them . Just thought id ask on here

He might be on about the salmon fishing fella.

ah right so no floats with salmon?

Unfortunately bud it's not just that straight forward. Sometimes you can use a float with a prawn or worm for salmon, but it all depends on the club rules really they are usually annoyingly specific.

Sorry I can't be more help than that! Be careful with your rod license too, to fish for salmon you would need a migratory fish license which are fairly expensive. All the best with it

On that stretch of the river the rules change by the yard practically. Some stretches you can use only worm, others only spinners etc. I don't know the ins and outs, but I have spoken to a few fishermen down there and one side of a bridge is one rule and the other side is another and the rules seem to change at different times of the season too.
